Hello there. I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, and tell you all about my cancer journey. My name is Bev Stafford, and my cancer journey was the closest walk I ever took with God. I remember the day I got “that” phone call. After receiving the call, I called the church and talked with Pastor Don. I asked to meet with him for prayer knowing that I needed strength and healing.
Time passed and my surgery and reconstruction went well. Nothing in my lipoids was the first sign of healing. The cancer was 2.5cm and stage three Carcinoma.
On January 12, 2010 I had my first of six chemo treatments. I would be getting chemo done every three weeks. It took five long hours for the first treatment. I had Bill, my husband, with me. He was there to listen able the side effects and care I would experience and need in the coming days, weeks, and months. I was told on day three chemo would hit me, and boy did it! It hit me hard. I experienced mouth sores, bright red and swollen hands, an upset tummy, and weakness throughout my body.
During my second round of chemo, I was given a drug to help my blood produce more white cells. It was very painful as it went to my bone marrow.
The third chemo came and I was given a second sign of healing. I took a blood test to check my white count and the oncologist said my blood work was very good and taking to the chemo. This made it where I didn’t have to take a painful drug.
Time passed and during my sixth chemo I received my third sign of healing. My friend, Linda, was able to take me to my treatment. My doctors and nurses were very happy with the incredibly good blood work and informed me that that rarely happened. I knew it was a sign of healing that was happening.
Then deep in prayer one day the Lord asked me to tell my story. After thinking about how to do that, I contacted many ladies from Bible study and started to tell my story.
After all this taking place, I had two ladies from Akron ask me questions about their breast cancer. I started thinking that this is my next walk with God. I started my support group and began reaching out to other ladies. Some of them were going through treatment, some were getting check ups, and some were hitting their five and ten year marks of being cancer free.
Now here I am continuing with my support group and walking with God. I ask all of you to please share your stories and continue to be part of this group as we grow together, heal together, fight together, and pray together.
