Recovery is stronger when people have a community supporting them. 💙💚

We're excited to share the progress of the Summit County Turning Point Program Alumni Group, which received $154,800 in funding through our first Regional Grant Cycle to expand peer support and recovery opportunities.

In 2026, the program has seen remarkable growth:
🟢 82% increase in participation, growing from 45 to 82 individuals.
🔵 17 opportunities to connect in the first six months of 2026, including graduation ceremonies, educational workshops, and alumni-led events.
🟢 Programming addressed all 8 dimensions of wellness Summit County Turning Point prioritizes, including physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, vocational, financial, and environmental, helping participants build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.

Led by Judge Joy Malek Oldfield, the Summit County Turning Point Program has helped individuals navigate recovery through treatment, accountability, and support since 2002. Today, its alumni are building on that mission by sharing their experiences, mentoring others, and showing current participants that lasting recovery is possible.

With support from more tahan seven community partners, including the Akron Area YMCA, Love Akron, IBH Addiction Recovery, and ARC Recovery Services, the Alumni Group continues to expand its reach and strengthen Summit County's recovery community.

No tricks, just treats!

Today we celebrated Sobertober, a Turning Point tradition! We enjoyed breakfast, Boo Bags, and Ghoul-Aid while putting together Recovery Exit Plans.

Having a plan to leave a situation that could put recovery at risk is something worth celebrating. Know your warning signs, have your support people ready, and give yourself permission to make an exit!

Here’s to sober fun, sweet treats, and choices that protect your sobriety!!! 👻

Calling all Turning Point alumni! Are you part of our Summit County Turning Point Program Alumni Group? If not, what are you waiting for?! You’re missing out on some scary good fun!

Our Turning Point alumni welcomed 11 current participants for a night at the Akron Haunted School House and Laboratory making memories, building friendships, and showing that sober fun is VERY real!

We’re proud of our alumni for showing up for one another and helping current participants see the possibilities ahead. Thank you to OneOhio Recovery Foundation for helping make these opportunities possible!

Yesterday, Turning Point volunteered at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, lending a hand to help support our neighbors in need.

As National Recovery Month comes to a close, our support continues. đź’ś

Each Turning Point participant received a journal by Dr. Nicole Labor, the “Addiction Assassin,” along with personal messages of hope and encouragement from Summit County Court of Common Pleas employees, a reminder that an entire community is cheering them on.

Thank you to everyone who shared kind words. Your messages remind our participants that change is possible and no one walks this journey alone.

A big thank you to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for welcoming our Turning Point participants aboard! It was a wonderful opportunity to experience something new and enjoy the ride together.

Yesterday, Judge Joy Malek Oldfield
hosted a brown bag luncheon for Summit County Court of Common Pleas employees
in celebration of National Recovery Month!

During the luncheon, employees enjoyed an exhilarating game of Kahoot, three lucky winners taking home Turning Point tumblers and a Dr. Labor book! Attendees also took time to write letters of encouragement to active participants of the Turning Point Program and hear from retired Cuyahoga County Judge Bill McGinty, who shared insights from his lifetime of work in recovery.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate recovery, community and second chances!
