Beautiful afternoon, working on merchandise. We're finally there on print and process. Staring to build out inventory - merch can be purchased at woodsmoke in the fall or online for pick-up (coming soon)! Sign up for our newsletter to stay in the know at woodsmokesauna.com.

T-shirts are Color Comfort - all cotton, garment dyed. Not only does garment dye save water, it gives our shirts character. They fade just a little with every wash, giving the shirt a blissfully soft, and "most loved t-shirt" vibe. Cyanotype too fades over time. You know there's nothing that makes us feel more authentic than earned patina!

I can only tell you that this dream of living close to nature, quietly, boldy, sweetly, proudly, and assuredly; it's been a challenge. But throwing ourselves in to this lifestyle has opened my eyes to so many paths I would have never imagined for myself, brought me people I am so blessed to have in my circle, and provided so many gifts into my life. We've been through so many struggles, and yet we kept on, turning deeper and deeper, growing in strength, wisdom and conviction.

And here we are. Not quiet on the cusp of sharing woodsmoke with you, doors wide open. But it's within reach - and being so close to this dream, is so tantalizingly sweet.

We can't wait to share her with you. xoxo

I LOVED the enthusiasm you all had for our sunprint t-shirt experiments. I'm blessed to be getting tips from a cyanotype aficionado and I'd very happy to pass along a run through of my process.

Learning a lot and FAST. Hoping to figure this out before my whole wardrobe looks like a branded paint spill. Once we get the logo down, I'm going to start playing with adding in ferns and flowers. Let's see where this takes us!

Keep an eye out for me wearing my science experiments around town!

This winter has been brutal. Cold. Snow. Wind. Ugh.

Progress on the sauna is going about as fast as the snow melt. And while we can't bring the temps up, we can look forward to spring.

I've been winter sowing native flowers as fast as my little family is drinking milk. I plan to add a bed right out the back window of the sauna to enhance the beauty of the view.

Saturday is for living, for tending our lifestyle, for using our hands and caring for one another.

Kombucha is a house staple, and brewing our own is such a savings over store brought, and gives the options for more tailored flavors.

What you need:
🔹️20 grams black tea
🔹️10 grams green tea
🔹️12 cups water - 4 boiling, 8 cold
🔹️1/2 cup sugar
🔹️scoby & starter tea
🔸️glass container
🔸️cheesecloth & rubber band
🔸️fine strainer

Get yourself a scoby (ask friends for their discard!), and get brewing

Boil 4 cups water. Kill the heat and add 20 grams black tea for 10 minutes, add 10 grams green tea and steep another 10 minutes.

In your glass container add the 4 cups of strained tea to 1/2 cup sugar. Stir to dissolve.

Add 8 cups cold water, then your scoby and starter tea.

Cover with cheesecloth and voila!

After a week or so you'll be ready for 2nd ferment to add some natural flavors!

Our build is going slow with the cold weather. Bringing ourselves into these daily activities helps the time pass more easily. Especially with Phil's declaration of another 6 weeks of winter.

Stay warm!

The plunge comes as a quiet shock — a breath that sharpens, a stillness that snaps into focus. In that moment where heat yields to cold, circulation shifts and the nervous system rallies: alertness rises, breath deepens, and sensation centers the mind. People often describe this as clarity — the fog lifting, attention settling into the present. Brief immersion is linked to shifts in brain networks associated with mood, attention, and emotional regulation, and to the release of neurochemicals that support wakeful calm. The cold doesn’t numb — it clarifies it.

Science notes: Short-term cold immersion has been shown to improve mood and increase alertness and positive affect, with changes in brain connectivity linked to attention control and emotion regulation.
