Deep in the frozen forests of Algonquin lore lurks one of the most terrifying creatures ever imagined... the Wendigo.
This malevolent spirit is said to be born from the darkest act of desperation. According to legend, when a person trapped by extreme winter and starvation resorts to cannibalism to survive, they risk transforming into a Wendigo.
The creature is described as a towering, skeletal giant with sunken eyes, stretched skin pulled tight over its bones, and an insatiable hunger that can never be satisfied. The more it feeds, the hungrier it becomes.
For many Indigenous communities, the Wendigo was more than just a monster. It served as a powerful warning about greed, selfishness, and the dangers of abandoning one's humanity during times of hardship.
Stories of strange cries echoing through snow-covered forests and shadowy figures stalking travellers have kept the legend alive for generations.
Do you think the Wendigo was simply a cautionary tale, or could there be something more behind these chilling stories?
