At Cremation Society of Wisconsin, we understand the level of trust you are placing upon our staff. It is normal to have questions or concerns about our processes of handling your loved one after their death. Many funeral homes do not have on-site crematories, which means the deceased must be transferred several times during the cremation process. At Cremation Society of Wisconsin, we have our own

crematory on-site. It is operated by the same caring staff that handle every step in the process, from removal to family contact. All of our crematory operators have attended training to become certified operators. Once we take your loved one into our care, they will remain in our care every step of the way until the cremated remains are released

Dorothy Jean Kruschke

Dorothy Jean Kruschke, 99, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away on September 1, 2026.

She was born in Prairie Farm, WI on March 29, 1927, to Kristian and Emma Sather.

Dorothy was married to Paul Thomas Kruschke on December 28, 1946; they were happily married for 42 years.

She graduated from Prairie Farm High School and continued study at Eau Claire Vocational School in clerical work. She worked as a typist for Uniroyal, was a dedicated homemaker, and enjoyed working in retail at Pranges and Younkers for 21 years until her retirement in 1992.

Dorothy loved to sew and quilt, spend ample time in her flower garden, bake everything to perfection, shop til she dropped, do crosswords, cheer for the Packers, attend the theater, and spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Loving to travel, Dorothy visited Hawaii, Norway, Mexico, & all over the USA. She was full of love and commentary! She loved her family above all else.

She was an avid church-goer her entire life, actively attending Plymouth United Church of Christ when from her marriage until her death. At Plymouth UCC, Dorothy was actively involved in the quilting group, making hundreds of quilts for the homeless for over 33 years. In 2023, she received an award from the governor for being the longest serving member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, for her many years of service.

Dorothy is survived by four of her children: Reenie (Paul) Berge, Karl (Mary) Kruschke, Kay (Kevin) Bussing, and Laurie Sather; her grandchildren: Rianna (Greg) Voss, Darren Kruschke, Jesse Kruschke, Sarah (Rick) Thearin, Matthew (Niki) Kruschke, Marissa Walczak, Emily Martin, Nick Martin, and Ben Karcz; eight great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Kruschke, two of her children: Thomas (Arvilla) Kruschke and Linda Kruschke; siblings: Ivan, Marion, Ella, Helen, LaVerne, Newton, and Robert; and her parents.

A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held at 12:00 pm on September 19, 2026, at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Eau Claire, WI. Pastor Les Munnik will officiate. Luncheon will be served after the service, and burial will follow the funeral at Lakeview Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

All monetary gifts will be donated to the Plymouth UCC quilting group.

Alex James Laffey

Alex James Laffey, 31, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, at home, surrounded by the people who loved him most, after an over five-year journey with brain cancer.

Alex was born on August 22, 1995, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Dawn (Wermers) and Dion Laffey. He grew up in Eau Claire alongside his younger sister, Shelby Laffey. Alex attended St. James Elementary School and Regis Middle & High School, where he met his wife and many lifelong friends. Alex then attended UW-Stout, graduating with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. While attending UW-Stout, Alex worked in the Machining Lab, where he loved helping other engineering students. Following graduation, Alex proudly became a Design Engineer for Curt Manufacturing.

Alex was devoted, witty, easygoing, and resilient. He had a gift of making people laugh with his unique sense of humor, and he was always at his best when he could bring a little joy to the people around him. For so many people, "Laff" wasn't just a nickname - It was exactly who he was. He was the calm in the chaos, but he never took life too seriously. He was the kind of person who could be a friend to anyone. Those who know him best knew they could always count on him, and he was one of the most loyal friends you could ever have.

Alex loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed hunting with his dad and family friends and took great pride in his "buck of a lifetime" harvest. Fly fishing was a particular favorite of his. He was also a big Packers fan and loved nothing more than heading to Lambeau Field for a game. He also enjoyed playing video games, especially with friends.

Alex's love story began in sixth grade, when he met Alexandra Beckfield, who, like him, went by Alex. By the time they were 13, they started dating, and from then on, the two were inseparable. Alex & Alex grew up through every stage of life side by side - going to every school dance together, cheering each other on through sports, activities, and milestones, and finding their way into countless adventures with friends. With two Alexes together, it didn't take long for them to be known as Alex².

What started as a childhood friendship grew into a lifelong love. They were first best friends, and then they became each other's forever. Alex proposed to Alexandra in October 2017, and they were married on June 29, 2019.

On August 16, 2023, Alex & Alex's greatest dream came true when Leo James was born. In the middle of the beautiful chaos that was their life, Leo became their light. Alex was incredibly proud to become a father, and there was no role he cherished more. From the moment Leo arrived, he had Alex's whole heart, and Alex loved nothing more than being his daddy.

Above all else, family and friends were at the center of Alex's life. So many of his favorite memories came from simply being with the people he loved - having a b**r with his buddies, date nights with Alex, annual trips to Disney & Cocoa Beach, Florida, time at his parents' camper, showing up for his nieces' sporting events, performances, and milestones, hunting with his dad, Beckfield family Sunday dinners, fishing with friends & family, raising hell with his high school crew, or taking Leo to the playground and hearing "Daddy, watch this!" For Alex, it was never really about what they were doing; it was about who he was doing it with.

Alex was incredibly proud to be a husband, father, son, grandson, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He poured so much of himself into each of those roles, and he was proud of the life he built and the people he built it with. He was deeply loved, and he gave that same love right back. His impact on the people around him will last far beyond his years, and the memories, laughter, and the love he gave so freely will be carried with them always.

The family & friends of Alex would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the incredible teams who cared for Alex throughout his cancer journey. To his Mayo Clinic neuro oncology team, especially Dr. Ugur Sener, Mayo Clinic Home Health team, and St. Croix Hospice team, especially RN Miranda & aide Regan - Thank you for caring for Alex as a person - not just a patient, and for walking alongside our family through this journey. You became a part of our family's story, and we will carry our gratitude for you with us always.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alex's memory to Reel Recovery, Lakken's Legacy, or the Regis Catholic Schools Foundation to help establish a memorial scholarship in Alex's honor.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 14, 2026 at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St. Eau Claire with Fr James Kurzynski officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Pkwy, Altoona and Monday from 10:00 am-11:00 am at the church. Inurnment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.

Robert Eugene Hopfer Jr.

Robert (Bob) Hopfer Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield surrounded by family following a short illness.

Robert was born October 13, 1940, to Robert Sr. and Jessie (Barr) Hopfer in San Diego, California. He received elementary education at St Mary's Catholic Church and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1959. After graduation Robert proudly joined the Navy (following his father's footsteps) and was honorably discharged in 1963. On April 15, 1967, Robert married Sylvia Kuhn at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They shared almost 55 years of marriage together. Robert was employed by A.O. Smith in Milwaukee as a laborer for 40 years.

Besides spending time with his four children, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Also, he spent many hours doing woodworking, gardening, and riding his motorcycle. Robert and Sylvia took several trips: Nashville, Branson, and to the western states. In 2004 they moved back to Neillsville to retire. Robert was a proud member of Neillsville American Legion Post 73 for 20 years. Robert, along with Sylvia, spent many hours volunteering at the American Legion for several years.

Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Sylvia, on February 28, 2022.

He is survived by his family, which includes his children: Melissa (Tim) Paisley of Union Grove, William (Amy) of Spencer, Jennifer Goetzke of West Bend and Timothy (Debbie) of Milwaukee. Also, he is survived by his grandchildren: Laura, Adam, Jenna, James, Jessica, Emilie and Deven including a soon-to-be great grandson: Kane Robert. His surviving siblings included: David (Lorna) Hopfer, Wisconsin Rapids, Nancy (Gary) Hayes, Wausau, and Susan Hopfer, Stevens Point, along with many nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends.

The family wants to extend a heartful thank you to the Granton First Responders and Neillsville Ambulance for their service.

Interment of ashes along with Military Honors will be at the Neillsville Cemetery at 11AM, followed by a Celebration of Life reception at Neillsville American Legion on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

William Frederick Kraft

William Frederick Kraft, was born to Fred and Mary (Boomer) Kraft at the Antigo, Wisconsin, hospital on March 15, 1934. He left this world on Friday, September 4, 2026. Bill wore many hats throughout his life, and consequently, he was a great storyteller.

As a young man in seventh grade in Galena, Illinois, his father had him driving milk truck by himself throughout the hills of Galena. In later years his article, Hauling Milk in Galena, was published.

After his family returned to Elcho, Wisconsin, in 1953, Bill started high school. He was a standout on the Elcho basketball and football teams lettering all four years. He made All-Conference in both sports.

After graduation from Elcho High School, he attended River Falls State College. He was on the football team and made All Conference three years in a row.

In his senior year he applied for induction into the Army. He was sent to a Radio School, where he learned Morse code. When his tour of duty in Germany ended, he returned to River Fall State College and earned a B.S. degree in teaching. He also sat for his Amateur Radio License and passed. He received a certificate for 30 words a minute. This became a lifetime skill. His first teaching job was at Dresser, Wisconsin. He then taught at Clayton, Wisconsin, and he finished his teaching career at the Chippewa Falls Middle School. At Chippewa He started SPARC, Students Participating in Amateur Radio Club. A former student recently sent a message to say, "If Bill hadn't taught me Morse code in seventh grade, my life would have been entirely different. It's a part of my life every day. And it has taken me around the world!" Somewhere out in the ether, messages from K9NY are still floating around. Listen for his call.

Bill joined the Army National Guard and combined with his active duty he served his country for over 34 years. He had stints of duty at Hayward, Eau Claire, and Chippewa Falls. Bill took a sabbatical from teaching to attend the nine-month-long resident's course at Ft. Bliss, TX, to become eligible for promotion to Sergeant Major. His love, passion, and professionalism for the Army & Army National Guard lead him to be selected to lead the Wisconsin Army National Guard Military Academy as their Command Sergeant Major of the 426th Regional Training Institute.

Bill and Charlotte Anderson were married on December 26, 1960, they were always a team. What one couldn't do, the other could. After they were both retired, they spent their time traveling in their pickup camper or fifth wheel. They covered almost all the States, spent six weeks touring Alaska, rode the rails with their camper on a flatbed train to Mazatlán, Mexico, traveled most of Canada, and the highlight was a visit to Prince Edward Island and several winter trips to Key West. One special trip was to Denmark, where Char met up with her many cousins. Her father was a Danish emigrant to the United States.

With his experiences with amateur radio, he served as the ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) Coordinator for eight years for Eau Claire County. One year at the Wisconsin State ARES Conference, he was honored to receive the Emergency Coordinator of the Year Award.

Bill was a student of history, especially Civil War and Roman history, and he supported Historical Societies to which he had ties. He was most active in Stockton, Illinois, Historical Society and most recently the Elcho Historical Society of which he was founding member.

Bill always said the most important thing to him was his beautiful family of which he was most proud. He leaves behind his son Jim and his wife Shelly and son Matt and his wife Michelle. His grandchildren: Will Kraft, his namesake; Jacob Kraft, Zachary Kraft, and his wife Allison; Samantha and her husband Adam Jackson; and great grandchildren Asher and Briar Jackson, and Cecilia and Sophia Kraft.

Bill was also a w**emaker! He made carboys of w**e out of raspberries, grapes, or with whatever fruit was available Thus, the family had plenty of w**e for holiday dinners. Many folks were gifted with bottles of w**e.

Two sisters survive Bill: Marlene Voight and Mary Susan Andraschko and her husband Steve; two brothers: Kenneth Kraft and his wife Myrna, and LaMont Kraft, and special cousins Leroy and Jenny Maloney, and many cousins on the Boomer and Kraft family sides.

Bill's life was marked by extraordinary chapters, each part brimming with adventure, humor, compassion, and the spark that makes life worth living. We gather not in sorrow, but in awe to reflect upon and honor the story of a husband, teacher, soldier, father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose heart, intellect, and zest for experience have touched those around him. It was a life well lived.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Parkway, Altoona with Fr. James Kurzynski. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Private burial will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner at a later date.

Edwin Stuart Archibald

Edwin (Ed/Eddie) Archibald, age 80, of The Villages, FL and New Auburn, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, surrounded by family.

Ed was born August 15th, 1946, in Mishawaka, IN, to Harry and Rose (Pobjecky) Archibald. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School, and for his first two years of high school, attended the Seminary. He graduated from Penn High School in 1964. Ed went on to further his education at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN, on both academic and athletic scholarships, but later opted to relocate with his family to the Lake DuBay (Stevens Point) area, in 1966. Ed married his first love, Linda Miller on June 1st, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point, WI. They were together for 44 wonderful years. During their marriage, Ed worked for Wolohan Lumber in Plover, WI. In 1972, Ed was hired by Menard’s Cashway Lumber and relocated briefly to Eau Claire, WI and Rochester, MN. They returned to the Stevens Point/Mosinee area in 1977. It was there that they owned and operated Archie’s Drive-In and Fast Eddie’s Bar. In addition, Ed was also briefly employed by Schutte’s Lumber, and later had his own drywall business, Badgerland Drywall.

Menard’s again hired Ed, and they returned to Eau Claire, where they resided until Linda’s passing on August 3rd, 2012.

After leaving Menards in 2004, Ed started up his company ESA Marketing and Consulting, and split his time between La Quinta, CA and Eau Claire, WI.

In November 2013, Ed was blessed to find love a second time, meeting Debra Durch. He and Debi were together for 10 blissful years before marrying on November 29th, 2023.

Ed enjoyed sports, and belonged to a few men’s and mixed couples bowling leagues in Eau Claire, where he bowled a 300 game. In his younger days he enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool, as well as softball during the days owning Fast Eddie’s Bar. But golf was his favorite sport, and something that garnished him many good friends and great memories in his life.

He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan throughout his life, but drifted to the “dark side” of being a Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan as years passed. Ed had a phenomenal voice, which shined through his public speaking, but even more through his ability to sing. Whether it was in the car, at home, out with family or friends, or in church, he’d sing. His favorite songs were that of Gene Pitney, which he listened to right up to his last days. Ed had the gift of a big heart, full of love, and was a very generous man, both of which he shared with everyone he met.

Survivors include his wife Debi; a daughter: Lynn Marie (Lonnie) Archibald-Smith of Eau Claire, WI; step-children: Mark (Casey) Yohnk of Bloomer WI; Sadie (Mike) Ludwig of Middleton, WI; four grandchildren: Aaron (Oriana) of Chippewa Falls, WI; Madalyn of Fargo, ND; Cameron and Paige, both of Fond Du Lac, WI; four step-grandchildren: Lilly, Bo, Tucker and Markis, four great-grandchildren: Isabella, Brayden, Faith and Rosalind; four sisters: Darlene Marie of Wausau, WI; Priscilla (Tom) Clendenning of Plover, WI; Rosemary (Bob) Perron of Twin Lakes, WI; Michelle (Scott) Bruesewitz of Stevens Point, WI.

Ed is further survived by other close family members of Linda and Debi’s, as well as a plethora of close friends, and colleagues that remained in his life.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his two great-grandsons Gavin Edwin and Leonardo David Archibald-Smith.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 4th, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St, Eau Claire. Friends may call on Thursday, September 3, from 4-8 p.m. at Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S Hillcrest Pkwy, Altoona, and again on Friday, at church, from 10:00 a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making memorials to the Chippewa Falls School District, The Miracle League of Chippewa Valley, and The Building Homes for Heroes Program.

Dennis Lee Armitage

Dennis Lee Armitage, age 83 of Blair, Wisconsin, formerly of Atlanta, Missouri, passed away in his home on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Dennis was born on March 11, 1943, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Merle and Rosella (Lautenschlager) Armitage, and grew up primarily in the Seymour, Wisconsin area. He attended Seymour High School, graduating in 1961. Following graduation, Dennis worked at a variety of jobs. While working on a construction site, he was severely burned and spent many months in the hospital enduring treatments and skin grafts. Dennis married Linda Wilson, and started their family with Dawn, and then daughter Michelle. For many years, they lived in the Cambridge area. Dennis and Lin later divorced.

Dennis' love for horse pulling began early, following in the footsteps of his dad, Merle, and grandpa, Claude, both well-known horsemen in the sport. After losing his father in his early teens, Dennis's mother later married Marshall Grass, another pillar of the horse pulling community. Surrounded by that strong horse-pulling tradition from the time he was young, it's no surprise that Dennis carried a love for horses and the sport with him throughout his entire life.

And in that lifetime, what a horseman he became. He had a natural way about him and an understanding that came from a lifetime of experience, patience, hard work, and genuine respect for the animals and sport he loved.

Dennis was deeply involved in the horse-pulling community and was a member of horse pulling associations in both Wisconsin and Missouri. Over the years, he traveled countless miles, competed at pulls across the states, and made lifelong friendships. A few of his greatest accomplishments include winning the Big Red pull in Wisconsin, and setting the record for crossing the largest load ever in Detroit, with his team Rob and Roy. He still holds this record today. He was also a proud inductee and member of the Wisconsin Horsepuller's Hall of Fame.

Dennis spent nearly 32 years living in Missouri before returning to his Wisconsin roots on August 4th of this year. He was so happy to be back "home". In those few short weeks, Dennis made the most of his time, spending many of his days working side-by-side with his brother Alan and the horses - right where he was happiest. Though his time back home was far shorter than anyone could have imagined, those days were filled with family, horses, and a sense of belonging that meant so much to him. Sadly, Dennis passed away on August 29, just a few short weeks after being back.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Craig) Rabuck, Dawn (Ken) Wermuth, grandchildren, Abby and Noah Rabuck, his siblings - Alan (Sandy) Grass, Carla Tenneson, and Brenda (Norman) Olson. Nieces and Nephews - Debi (Chris) Fremstad, Lori (Kevin) Lisowski, Robin (Ryan) Nelson, Cheryl (Tom) Tenneson, Dawn (Mike) Troug, Tom (Angel) Tenneson, Penny (Jon) Paulson, Tammy (Dick) Jinkerson, Travis (Stacy) Armitage, Brent (Kristin) Olson, and Jeff (Sarah) Olson, special friend, Linda Poe, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Armitage, his mother, Rosella Grass, step-father, Marshall Grass, son, Todd, maternal grandparents, Albert and Anna Lautenschlager, paternal grandparents, Claude and Vernice Armitage, his brother, Gary Armitage, sister-in-law, Patsy Armitage, and brother-in-law, John Tenneson, and several aunts and uncles.

A private family service will be held Friday, September 11, at 2:30 p.m., with a Celebration of Life and luncheon to follow at 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to join us at 4:00 p.m. at the Blair Haus (107 W. Broadway St., Blair. WI) for food, refreshments, and to remember Dennis.

Wayne Milan Berg

Wayne Berg, age 70, of New Richmond, passed away on August 29, 2026, surrounded by family.

Wayne graduated from New Richmond High School in 1974. He married Malva, and for 30 years they built a life together with their children, Mark Berg and Wendy (Dan) Dryden.

Wayne continued building right through his last days. He was always someone who could figure anything out, had a strong drive to get things done, and looked forward to the next project he could help with. Whether it was a slab of cement he helped pour, a shed he helped build, a machine or vehicle he fixed, or a smart-assed comment that stayed with you, Wayne left his mark on the people around him.

Wayne had 3 brothers, 4 sisters, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that he truly enjoyed spending time with-playing cards, playing yard games, traveling, or simply talking. He especially enjoyed attending family camping events multiple times every summer.

Though Wayne is gone, the projects he helped finish and the memories he helped create will continue to stand as lasting reminders of the man he was. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Arrangements are being handled by Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
