My boyfriend has been a river guide for 26 years, so we spend each summer chasing whitewater. One of the perks of being a mobile massage therapist is that I get to bring my business wherever life takes us.

My office changes with the seasons.

In Sedona, it’s red rocks and desert skies.
This summer, it’s oak trees and river vibes in Northern California.

No matter where I am, I get to bring the same experience: professional massage without anyone having to leave home.

At the end of this session, my client described the massage as “decadent.”

I’ll happily take that as a compliment.

Some gifts say, “I was thinking about you.”

Today’s massage was a 70th birthday gift from a daughter to her mom.

Her mom is training for a big cycling event and has spent decades saying “yes” to adventures—Ironman races, endurance runs, long rides, and whatever challenge came next.

This afternoon, the challenge was simply to slow down.

One of the things I love most about this work is meeting people with incredible stories and getting to be a small part of their journey, whether they’re recovering from a long ride, preparing for the next one, or simply taking a moment to receive.

Today’s session, in this beautiful riverside space in Coloma, was one I’ll remember.

During a massage this weekend, after a few minutes of face and scalp work, my client smiled and said, “I need to start doing that for my girls. It’s so great for the nervous system.”

She has three young daughters, and it reminded me that calming touch isn’t just for adults. A few minutes of a gentle hand on the forehead can help them slow down, settle in, and feel cared for.

We don’t outgrow the need for nurturing touch.

One of my least favorite questions is:

“What’s your massage style?”

I never know how to answer it.

I could list techniques. I could describe pressure. I could use industry terms.

But none of that really tells you what it’s like to be on my table.

The truth is, every session is a little different because every person is different.

My goal isn’t to fit your massage into a particular style.

My goal is to pay attention, adapt, and give you the massage your body needs that day.

So when someone asks about my massage style, part of me wants to say:

“You tell me after the session.”

Because that’s probably the most accurate answer.

It was her 4th session with me.

Afterward she told me it was the best massage she’s ever had in her life.

She turns 70 soon.

What changed? I’m not completely sure.

Maybe deeper pressure.
Maybe comfort and trust after multiple sessions.
Maybe her body was finally ready to fully let go — she even fell asleep, which she said she never normally does.

Sometimes the biggest shift isn’t a new technique. It’s the familiarity and trust built over time that allows the body to settle into the work and stop holding on so tightly.

I received a massage yesterday.

Even with a full schedule wrapping up my season in Sedona, squeezing in favorite bike rides, packing, planning, and preparing to leave town for the summer… I still made time for it.

Not because life feels calm.
Because taking care of myself works better when I do it before I desperately need it.

Receiving massage reminds me how easy it is to normalize tension and keep functioning through it.

I think a lot of people wait until exhaustion or pain forces them to slow down. But sometimes the real value is not waiting that long.
