Interesting and well-written article comparing Traditional Chinese Medicine and AI. TCM is an independent system of medicine that accounts for the complex interconnectedness of our emotional, mental and spiritual health with the world around us. It uses an individualized holistic approach towards care and a unique language that is challenging not only to translate into modern biomedicine but to study with research that requires standardization, such as randomized controlled trials. AI language models “embrace complexity” to execute requests from massive amounts of data but “can’t provide an explanation for the reasoning behind these computed probabilities, much as we can’t provide anatomical correspondence for qi and meridians.” Good read, especially for those with an interest and understanding of AI technology. https://www.wired.com/story/machine-learning-chinese-medicine-acupuncture-study-design/?fbclid=IwAR3ISKOdqjB-EdRc-Q-FjeOwDD6c0ACDxAGlKsFqa_uIZ7HvY90c7O7w1rc

Now that I work in machine learning, I’m often struck by the parallels between this cutting-edge technology and traditional Chinese medicine.
