Anthony "Duke" Caruso

Anthony "Duke" Caruso, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and community.

Anthony was born February 1, 1937, in Gloversville, NY, son of the late Mary and Louis Caruso. He was the beloved husband of his late wife, Edna Cannizzo Caruso, whom he married on August 17, 1959. They shared many beautiful years together.

Anthony was a graduate and Class President of the Gloversville High School Class of 1955. He went on to attend SUNY Cobleskill and later earned a degree in Sociology through the University Without Walls program. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to Tryon School.

Anthony devoted much of his life to serving others. He was active in Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Gloversville/Johnstown Water Board, the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Gloversville High School Football Booster Club, and served as President of Gloversville Little League Baseball. He also proudly served as Deputy Mayor of Gloversville. A devout Catholic, he was a proud member of Sacred Heart Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa.

Anthony was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, and lifelong Red Sox fan.

Most of all, Anthony will be remembered as a dedicated father, grandfather "Pops," and friend who devoted his life to helping those around him.

Anthony is survived by his children, Jeannine (David) Toney of Ballston Spa, NY, and Stephen (Patricia) Caruso of Uxbridge, MA; his grandchildren, Ryan Caruso, Nicholas Toney (April Reynolds), and Anthony Caruso (Julia); his great-grandson, Anthony "A.J." Caruso; his siblings, William (Kim) Aperance and Rick (Cindi) Renschler; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Anthony was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas (Pat) Caruso, Nancy (Alvin) Busch, and Joseph (Sue) Caruso.

A public visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, New York 12020, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 76 South Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville, New York 12078.

His kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Terry Lee Willis

Terry Lee Willis passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at Mountain Valley Hospice, surrounded by his loved ones, after a 10-year-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was a hardworking man who dedicated his life to providing for his family and taking pride in the life he built with his own hands.

Terry was born June 15, 1947, in Gloversville, New York, to LeRoy Lester Willis and Shirley Carruthers Willis.

Terry was a lifelong logger, following in the footsteps of his father, with whom he began working in the woods at a young age. Logging was more than a job to Terry; the woods were his happy place. He spent many years working in the woods, including countless days alongside his son, Roy. His love of hard work and dedication to providing for his family became a lasting example that he passed down to his children.

On February 4, 1967, Terry married the love of his life, Geraldine Patricia Boucher Willis, after just six months together. Their love and commitment continued for nearly 60 years. Together, Terry and Geraldine built a life centered around their family and their home.

They welcomed their daughter, April Lee Willis Ferris, on November 2, 1967, followed by their son, Roy Michael Willis, on August 20, 1970. Terry was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in his family. He instilled in his children the same strong work ethic that had guided his own life: to work hard, take care of your family, and never be afraid to get your hands dirty.

Terry and Geraldine made their home in Meco, New York, where they lived together for 45 years. Terry spent years working on and adding to their home and property, much of that work done alongside his son, Roy. The home they created was a place where their family could gather and where many cherished memories were made.

Terry was a loving grandfather to Shandi Dickenson (Shawn Dickenson), Jason Clifford, Lillian Willis, Sophey Willis, and Isabelle Simek (Peyton Simek), and a proud great-grandfather to Kaleb, Madilyn, and Emma Dickenson. His family was one of his greatest sources of pride and happiness. He also shared a special love for his beloved dog, Timber, and cat, Murphy, who were faithful companions in his home.

Terry is survived by his son, Roy Willis, and daughter-in-law Cathy Willis; his daughter, April Ferris, and son-in-law Scott Ferris; his grandchildren Shandi Dickenson (Shawn Dickenson), Jason Clifford, Lillian Willis, Sophey Willis, and Isabelle Simek (Peyton Simek); and his great-grandchildren Kaleb, Madilyn, and Emma Dickenson. He is also survived by numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cherished family friends.

Terry was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Carruthers Willis, and his father, LeRoy Lester Willis.

Terry will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his dedication to providing for those he loved, his love for the woods, and the many lessons he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was a man who found happiness in simple things: working with his hands, being in the woods, building a home, and spending time with the people and animals he loved.

Though he will be deeply missed, Terry’s legacy lives on in the family he worked so hard to provide for, the values he passed down, and the many memories made over a lifetime.

At Terry’s request, he will be cremated. A private celebration of his life will be held with his loved ones gathered together to remember, honor, and celebrate the life he lived.

John Autilio

John Raymond Autilio, age 80, of Caroga Lake, NY, passed away on August 4, 2026. He was born on December 10, 1945, in Norwich, England, the son of John and Peggy (Spaull) Autilio.

John graduated from Gloversville High School in June 1965, due to traveling back and forth to England multiple times as a child. John proudly served in the US Navy starting in August 1965, onboard the USS Kitty Hawk and then on a BT boat travelling up the Mekong Delta. He earned a Purple Heart during his time in Vietnam.

He spent many years working as a security guard at General Electric in Schenectady, and later as police chief in Mayfield.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed cars, football, baseball, music, and collecting coins. In high school, he played varsity football for GHS. He also played drums around Gloversville in a band called “The Demons”.

John is survived by his daughter Heidi (Jason) Childers, grandson Brandon Lamb, granddaughter Dakotah (Mike) Gray, and great-granddaughter Madelyn Gray. His sister Melissa Autilio Fleischut and her children Henry (Veronika) Fleischut and Mary Fleischut, and his brother Patrick (Marsha) Autilio, and their daughter Anna (Rhys) Morris. He is also survived by his stepchildren Jennifer (Bill) Brownell, Jeffery (Joanne) Brownell, Vickie Brownell, Rich (Denise) Grandshaw, and Tina (John) Grandshaw. His step-grandchildren Zachary, Alexander, Taylor, Lucas, Jordan, Justin, Trai, Logan, Haley, Billy, Brittany, and Kristian and several step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Gloria in 2017, and his step-grandson Peter Bleyl, as well as his mother Peggy Spaull Reynolds, his father John Rocco Autilio, and his stepmother Joan Autilio.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville, at 10:30 AM with Rev. Lucy Harris officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Grace K. Clute

Grace K. Clute, age 92, of Gloversville passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Grace was born in Johnstown on July 25, 1934, the daughter of the late Eugene "Mike" and Grace (Young) Ward.

Grace was a graduate of Mayfield High School Class of 1951. She was employed at various glove companies in Gloversville and Johnstown. Over the years, she also worked at Allegro Shoe and Johnstown Knitting Mill. Her last employment, at age 86, was at Mendetta's Mini Mart retiring in 2020. Grace worked with her sister, Audrey Mendetta, helping with the deli and catering. Grace's specialty was the very popular chocolate jumble cookies sold at the store. She enjoyed baking many varieties of cookies at Christmas and sharing them with family and friends. Several of her hobbies included crocheting and reading.

On March 10, 1956, Grace married Clarence E. Clute Jr. They celebrated 40 years of marriage.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Wendy Zimmerman; her son, John C. (Rose) Clute; grandchildren, Matthew (Marisa) Zimmerman, Renee (Anthony) Brockhum, Jared Zimmerman, Kasey (Michael) LaFountain, and Charles DeVoe III; great grandchilden, Marc and Rocco Zimmerman; sister, Audrey Mendetta; sister-in-laws, Josephine and Lois Ward.

Grace was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; daughter, Gail Clute; great grandson, Nicholas Zimmerman; son-in-law, Mark Zimmerman; brothers, George (Ascita), Harold and Fred Ward.

Family and friends are invited to attend a public visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville on Friday, August 14, 2026 with a service to begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, New York.

Grace's family would like to thank the staff at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing for all the care Grace received these past two years.

Betty Jane Moore

Betty Jane (Hayes) Moore, 96, of Fultonville, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on August 9, 2026 with her daughter by her side. She was born on February 13, 1930, the daughter of the late Clifford and Lena Hayes and Elsie Vrooman. Betty was a lifelong resident of Fultonville.

Betty married the love of her life, Kenneth Moore, on June 24, 1950. They shared 49 loving years together until his passing. Together, they worked at the Fonda Speedway, creating many cherished memories along the way.

Throughout her life, Betty worked as an Avon representative and a Stanley representative. She was especially proud of her 66 years with Avon, where she built lasting friendships with countless customers and friends. She also worked at the Premiere Glove Shop. Her greatest work, however, was raising her five lovely daughters.

Betty was a longtime member of the Fonda-Fultonville Methodist Church. She often peeked out her window on Montgomery Street, and until her last days enjoyed keeping up o the neighborhood news and never wanted to miss a bit of gossip.

Betty is survived by her five daughters: Joann Scanlon, Linda Cotter, Deborah (Paul) Sedal, Denise Moore, and Donna Bradley; her sisters, Yvetta (Gene) Tryon and Loretta DaBiere; and eight grandchildren, Shawn (Cory) Cotter, Justin (Laura) Cotter, Bradley (Lori) Scanlon, Ryan (Sam) Scanlon, Ashley (Josh) Gessinger, Kyle Bradley, Jamie (Jake) Ammann, and Amie (Adam) Clute.

She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Brady, Colin, Trevor (Frankie), Dylan (Andra), Ryan Jr., Alyssa, Corey, Molly, Randy, Grayson, Maggie, Maverick, and Crew; one great-great-granddaughter, Ella; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth, Betty was predeceased by her sons-in-law Dennis Cotter and Mike Scanlon; sister-in-law, Margie (Jack) Schorer; and her brothers Seymour (Marj) Hayes, Butch Hayes, and Howard (Gerri) Hayes, and brother-in-law Richard DaBiere.

Betty’s family will be having a private service at their convenience.

Rodney Betler

Rodney Betler, 92, of Mayfield, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Born on June 21, 1934, in Gloversville, Rodney was the son of the late Clifton and Rena Betler. A lifelong resident of the village of Mayfield, Rodney cherished his community and the many friendships he built throughout his life.

Following his graduation from high school, Rodney proudly served his country in the United States Army. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and began a career that reflected his remarkable skill and work ethic. Rodney worked as a New York State Licensed Journeyman and Machinist with Fulton County Machine, where he was respected for his dedication, craftsmanship, and attention to detail until his retirement.

Rodney was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the company of those he loved. He had a well-known sweet tooth and never passed up a chance to enjoy a bowl of ice cream or a good home cooked meal. He remained passionate about machine shop work and woodworking, always appreciating the satisfaction that came from creating something with his hands. Rodney enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, attending soccer games, riding motorcycles, and target shooting. He was also a gifted church organist whose music brought comfort and inspiration to many. In quieter moments, he could be found reading his favorite magazines or sharing stories and laughter with his coffee clutch friends.

Above all, Rodney treasured his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Russell (Deborah) Betler and Steven (Miranda) Betler; his five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family members, friends, and neighbors who were blessed to know him.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was predeceased by other family members whom he now joins in eternal rest.

Rodney's legacy of hard work, service, faith, friendship, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Lois C. Widdemer

Lois C. Widdemer passed away peacefully at Canada Lake, NY on August 5, 2026. She was born in Johnstown, NY, in August of 1933 to Ruth and Loran Clark, and grew up in Rochester NY. From childhood, her summers were spent at Canada Lake, NY, where she met her husband, John Widdemer.

Over the years, she was involved in many community activities, including the League of Women Voters and Planned Parenthood. She served on the Nathan Littauer Board for many years. In addition, she worked in the family business, Bali Leathers, where she was President for the last 5 years. She also loved to travel and explore the history of many cultures.

Her family and friends will miss her adventurous spirit, sharp sense of humor, and love of entertaining. She is survived by her daughters Pamela (Dallas) Kersey and Susan (Keith) Harrington; her granddaughters Anne Kokemor (Bill) and Kate Harrington; and her great-grandchildren Hailey and Owen Kokemor. She was predeceased by her husband, John D. Widdemer, and her son, John D. Widdemer, Jr.

Michael A. "Woody" Weil

Fort Hunter - Michael A. "Woody" Weil, 69, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on March 25, 1957, in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Alfred and Kathleen “Kay” Weil. Michael was the devoted husband of Antonina S. Weil. Together, they shared 32 wonderful years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

A skilled welder and metal fabricator, Michael dedicated his career to Ross Precision Manufacturing. His exceptional craftsmanship contributed to projects in aerospace, defense, and power generation, with many notable endeavors throughout the years. Michael took great pride in his work and was highly respected by colleagues and friends.

Above all else, Michael treasured his family, whom he loved fiercely, and the simple joys in life. A man of few true passions, he enjoyed spending time working out, watching college basketball, and cheering on his favorite sports teams- especially the New York Giants and New York Yankees. He had a laid-back spirit, easygoing nature, and warmth that earned him countless friends. Woody's generosity, authenticity, kindness, humor, and genuine personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his beloved wife, Michael is survived by his children, Erich (Julie) Weil, Scott (Alex) Weil, and Ashley (John Polenski, Jr.) Weil; his adored grandchildren Brayden, Nikolai, Camryn, Sydney, Kyle, Marley, Layne, and Logan; his siblings, Karen Weil and Thomas Weil; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members; and many, many, many, MANY friends.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his dear grandmother Ann Farina.

Family and friends are invited to attend a public visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to join the family at Lorenzo’s Southside, 1 Port Jackson Square, Amsterdam, at 2:00 p.m. for a reception and remembrance.

The family invites those attending to bring a favorite photo of Woody to leave for them. These photos will be collected and treasured. The family looks forward to going through them and remembering the good times shared with him.

Andy Rivera

Andy Rivera, 69, of Amsterdam, NY, went to be with the Lord on July 29 2026. He was born January 1, 1957, in Manhattan, NY to his parents, Raul Rivera, Sr. and Gabriella Cosme.

Andy is survived by his wife, Carol L. Nadler Rivera, who he married on July 16, 1994 and celebrated their 32 anniversary this year. He is also survived by his sons, Taino X. Rivera, Estes Park, CO, and Ronald E. Carpenter, Amsterdam, NY; three granddaughters, Cyan and Alisia M. Rivera, Harmony N. Carpenter, all of Amsterdam. NY; one grandson, Elijah Arcadio Rivera, Estes Park, CO; his brother, Johnny Cosme, Amsterdam, NY; a sister, Janeen Cosme, Troy NY, and another brother; his karate brother and best friend Cecil George, Florida.

In addition to his parents, Andy is predeceased by his son, Elijah A. Rivera, Amsterdam, NY; his nephew, Arcadio "Boom, Boom" Bonefont, his brothers Raul "Papo" Rivera Jr., Lester Rivera Sr. and Carlos Bonefont, all of Amsterdam, NY, and 2 other brothers.

Andy attended school in Brooklyn, and graduated from Harry Lundeburg School of Seamanship Piney Point, MD in 1978. He completed a fire course at the Military Sealift Command Firefighting School in NJ. Andy served in the Merchant Marines during Desert Storm, and also traveled to Portugal, Italy and Russia.

Andy started the practice of martial arts at the age of 7 and started instructing at the age of 16 as a 5th degree blackbelt. He earned many degrees in various martial defense forms, Shotokan Karate, Young's Panther Dojo, Go-Dan 5th degree, Ju-jitsu, Judo, Vee-Arnis-jitsu, Professor Florendo Visitacion, Gung-fu, and many more. Andy set up self-defense programs in Brooklyn, NY instructing male, female, deaf and wheelchair students. He developed the Hands of Prayer Martial Arts-River System. He had few students in Amsterdam but the three he taught her excelled and became blackbelts within a year, surviving 5-hour workout sessions., Rafik, Orlando and George.

Andy was a loving, strong and sometimes wise man who only wanted to make things right. He was a deep thinker, and some people did not understand his many facets and how much really cared. He was everyone's Grandpa no matter how old they were, as a little girl asked him, "Can you be my Grandpa too?". He had a sense of humor that jibed with his wife's and they had cashiers at their favorite stores laughing most of the time. She became Grandma to others because of him.

Andy will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew the man under the loud and fierce exterior.
