Today, a patient reminded me why I love being a nurse. 🥹❤️

I hadn’t been caring for him very long, but something he said truly touched my heart.

He shared that he had prayed to God to get better and finally go home. Then he told me, “You are a blessing. Everything your hands touch is blessed, and so are the people around you.”

Those words meant more to me than he could ever imagine. ❤️

Moments like this remind me that nursing is more than medications, assessments, and tasks. It’s about being part of someone’s healing journey and making a difference, even in the smallest ways.

To my fellow nurses, don’t let a few bad shifts make you forget all the beautiful moments and lives you’ve touched.

Yes, nursing can be exhausting, but there is still so much goodness in what we do. Sometimes, we just need a reminder to focus on the positive.

Today, while I was helping my patient heal, his words blessed me in return. 🙏❤️

Never underestimate the impact of your kindness, compassion, and presence. You are making a difference!

Friendship! Today, I went to work and got my ASS WHOOPED. 😂😭

It was one of those shifts where I was juggling complicated patients, running nonstop, and trying to do my best with very little help.

I could have spent the entire shift complaining about how busy I was or how overwhelmed I felt. But instead, I reminded myself that I chose to be there, and having the freedom to choose when I work is a privilege I never take for granted.

And despite the chaos, I still managed to make my patients smile. Hearing them thank me for the care I provided reminded me why I fell in love with nursing in the first place.

Because nursing isn’t always rainbows and butterflies. Some shifts will absolutely humble you. But I’ve learned that while we can’t always control what happens during our shift, we can choose how we respond to it.

Today could have made me bitter, but I chose to leave grateful.

Not because the shift was easy, but because I still found something beautiful in the middle of the chaos.

A hard day doesn’t have to become a bad day. Sometimes, it’s all about the perspective we choose to carry.

To my fellow nurses, I hope you never lose sight of the difference you make, even on your hardest days. 🫶

You don’t have to hate your career to want more out of life. And you don’t have to wait until you’re burnt out to start exploring new possibilities.

I’m not claiming to be a financial expert, but after 12 years of nursing, I’ve learned a thing or two about money that helped me get to where I am today.

I now work PRN as a nurse, and one of the biggest freedoms I have is knowing I don’t have to constantly pick up overtime just to maintain my lifestyle, buy the things I need, or take a vacation.

But I had to learn some lessons along the way.

So if you’re a new grad finally making that “nurse money,” here are 7 financial mistakes I want you to start thinking about because some of them can quietly make you financially dependent on nursing.

1. Building your lifestyle around your gross paycheck instead of your take-home pay.

2. Treating overtime, bonuses, and shift differentials like guaranteed income.

3. Upgrading your entire lifestyle the moment the RN checks start hitting.

4. Using “I deserve it” to justify spending every time nursing stresses you out.

5. Not understanding the benefits your employer is already offering you.

6. Saving whatever is left instead of intentionally paying yourself first.

7. Assuming a good nursing income automatically means you’re financially secure.

And #7 might trigger some people.

Because you can make six figures and still feel financially trapped if your lifestyle requires every dollar you earn.

For me, financial stability isn’t about never enjoying your money. I travel. I buy things I enjoy. I live my life.

It’s about creating enough breathing room that you don’t have to work yourself into the ground just to maintain it.

Because the goal isn’t to become a nurse who can afford more stuff.

The goal is to become a nurse who can afford more choices.

If you’re a nurse who wants to start creating more financial breathing room, more options, and eventually make overtime OPTIONAL,

What am I building outside of my career that my future self will thank me for?

Because here’s the thing. We spend years investing in our education, careers, and everyone around us. But how often do we invest in learning something completely different that could open new doors?

I realized I didn’t want to spend the next 20 years doing the same thing simply because it was comfortable.

So I made a decision to become a beginner again. To learn new skills, surround myself with people who challenge me, and start building something beyond my nursing career.

Not because I hate nursing. But because I love my life outside of nursing, too.

And I’m excited to see where this new chapter takes me.

Sometimes the biggest opportunities begin when you give yourself permission to explore something unfamiliar.

Comment “PRN” if you’ve ever felt like there’s something more waiting for you beyond your current career.

Nurses, I didn’t spend 12 years building my nursing career just to feel trapped by it.

I love nursing. But I also love having choices.

The truth is, we have SO MANY transferable skills that can create opportunities beyond the bedside.

You don’t have to quit nursing. You don’t have to build a million-dollar business overnight. You just have to be willing to explore something different.

Because burnout shouldn’t be the reason you finally decide to change your life.

I’m building a life where nursing is a choice, not my only option.

Comment “PRN” if you’re curious about creating options outside your nursing paycheck.
