El agotamiento no es una medalla. 🫶🏼

Growth doesn’t only change you, it often changes your relationships too.

A helpful question to ask yourself is:

“Am I changing because I’m becoming more authentic, or because I’m trying to make other people comfortable?”

Healing isn’t about becoming louder or harder. It’s about becoming more honest with who you are and giving yourself permission to take up the space you were always meant to occupy.

The people who are meant to be in your life won’t require you to shrink to keep the peace. 💛

Have you ever noticed a relationship change as you became more confident?

🎙️ I joined Maureen Benkovich on the Sober Fit Life podcast!

We talk about what it’s like to be a lifelong non-drinker in a culture where alcohol is often expected, what I’ve observed as a therapist about alcohol and emotional coping, and why building emotional fitness may be one of the most important skills we can develop.

One of my favorite takeaways:

“Nobody becomes emotionally resilient by avoiding uncomfortable feelings. Emotional health is learning what to do when you feel that way.”

I’d love for you to listen!

Sober Fit Life is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and wherever you listen, or just click on this link to listen.

We talk a lot about self-love, and most of us think about taking care of ourselves.

But I think self-love is also making time for the people you love.

This game took us a few minutes, but we laughed, learned a couple of new things about each other, and made a fun memory.

Connection doesn’t have to be anything big. Sometimes it’s a silly game, a walk, grabbing ice cream, or just sitting together for a while.

Those little moments count too.

Here’s your reminder to make time for them. ❤️

Ladies!

Sing the song.
Take the class.
Share your opinion.
Laugh loudly.
Start over.

The people who belong in this season of your life won’t need you to shrink to feel comfortable.

One of the hardest parts of healing is realizing that not everyone will be comfortable with your growth.

When you’ve spent years making yourself smaller, your confidence can feel unfamiliar to the people around you.

Don’t mistake their discomfort for a sign that you’re doing something wrong.

Keep becoming. ❤️

It took me a while to realize this, but one of the ways I show love for myself is by creating a life that includes things that bring me joy.

This all started with a simple conversation.

The owner of the dance studio where my daughter takes classes mentioned they had thought about offering Latin dance, but didn’t have anyone to teach it.

Without overthinking it, I said, “What if I do it?”

I had no idea that saying yes would end up being such a gift to myself.

For over a year now, I’ve had the privilege of spending one evening a week with an incredible group of women. We dance, we laugh, we challenge ourselves, we cheer each other on, and we leave feeling a little lighter than when we walked in.

It’s never been about dancing perfectly. It’s about enjoying our bodies for what they can do. It’s about feeling comfortable enough to laugh at ourselves, celebrate each other’s progress, and simply have fun.

As a therapist, I spend a lot of time talking about emotional wellness. This is one of the ways I practice it.

Here’s a little glimpse from our last recital. ❤️

One of my favorite parts of this video is that it was recorded by my teenager. Hearing her laugh and cheer me on from behind the camera makes this moment even more special.

I hope I’m teaching her something very important: that no matter your age or your fears, joy is always worth making room for. You try new things. You put yourself out there. You do what lights you up, even if it feels a little scary.

Thank you, sweetie, for capturing this moment. I hope you’ll always be proud of your mama for chasing what brings her joy and for being the fun, crazy mom who dances on stage. ❤️

If you’ve been waiting to try something just because it sounds fun, let this be your reminder: joy is not a luxury. It’s something worth making room for.

And if Latin dance has been on your list, we’d love to have you join us. Classes start again in September. 💃
