“I Stretch Every Day…So Why Am I Still Tight?”
It’s definitely a commonly asked question!
If that thought sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
The truth is tight muscles aren’t always “short” muscles…
Sometimes muscles can be tight for various reasons: Overworked, in protect mode, compensating for weakness, responding to stress... In other words, your body may be creating tension for a reason.
That’s why holding a stretch isn’t always enough.
When utilizing a PNF contract-relax method of assisted stretching, we use gentle muscle contractions followed by relaxation to help your nervous system allow the muscle to release more effectively. Instead of just pulling on a tight muscle, we are working with your body to facilitate and improve mobility.
We also look at why you’re feeling tight in the first place. Is it from sitting most of the day? Strength training? Repetitive movements? Stress? Often, it’s a combination of factors.
Stretching is an important part of staying active and feeling your best…but the right kind of stretching, combined with good movement and recovery, can make all the difference.😊
If you’ve been stretching consistently but still feel stiff or restricted, it may be time to try a different approach.
Have you caught yourself saying, “I stretch all the time (or pretty often 😉), but I’m still tight?”
If so, where do you feel it the most?: Your neck, shoulders, hips, back, or all of the above?
I’d love to help you move more freely and feel your best! If you are curious about PNF assisted stretching sessions or have any questions, send me a message. Let’s see if it’s the right fit for you!
