💜 When Words Become Hard, Meaningful Moments Matter 💜
One of the biggest misconceptions about dementia care is that we should constantly try to correct a person’s memory or bring them back to our reality. In many cases, this can actually increase confusion, frustration, and agitation.
Instead, approaches like validation therapy, redirection, and meaningful engagement can help create calmer, more positive interactions.
Validation therapy focuses on acknowledging a person’s feelings rather than correcting facts. If someone with dementia is worried, searching for a loved one, or talking about a different time in their life, responding to the emotion behind the words can help them feel heard, understood, and safe.
Once those feelings are validated, gentle redirection toward a familiar and purposeful activity can often reduce anxiety and improve engagement. Looking through family photos, listening to favorite music, folding towels, gardening, taking a walk, or participating in meaningful daily routines can provide comfort, purpose, and a sense of accomplishment.
At our mobile therapy practice, we believe that every person living with dementia deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. We work with individuals and caregivers to identify meaningful activities and practical strategies that support engagement, reduce agitation, and improve quality of life.
✨ As Certified Dementia Practitioners (CDPs) we are passionate about helping families navigate the dementia journey with confidence and support.
Sometimes the goal isn’t to change a person’s reality—it’s to meet them where they are, validate their feelings, and help them experience meaningful moments of connection. ❤️
