Starr Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that Mickie Haas, RN, has been named the first-quarter 2026 recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Mickie, who cares for patients on our Medical-Surgical Unit, is known for her clinical excellence and heartfelt compassion. Her commitment to going above and beyond ensures every patient feels supported, respected and truly cared for.

“I’m honored to recognize Mickie for her clinical excellence and the genuine compassion she shows to every patient and family she serves,” said Deborah Vaughn, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer.

A particularly meaningful nomination shared how Mickie helped a patient connect with his out-of-state daughter during his final days—allowing them to share a last goodbye. It’s these moments that reflect the profound difference nurses make every day.
