Black Maternal Health Week always brings me back to purpose. 🖤

This year, I had the honor of serving as a panelist for two screenings of Cradle & Culture, a Georgia Black doula network film centering the work, the voices, and the legacy of Black doulas.

Sitting in those spaces with some of of the women I started this journey with, I was reminded that although this work is fulfilling for me this work has never just been about me. It is about us. An interconnected system of care, remembrance, and resistance for Black women across the world.

I found myself thinking of every woman I’ve supported over the years… the births, the quiet moments, the strength, the softness, the breakthroughs. Their stories live with me. They guide me.

And there have been moments, subtle, sacred glimpses, where spirit has shown me what is to come. A future where our care is honored, our voices are centered, and our outcomes are transformed.

Until then, I will continue to hold space, to uplift, and to do my part in something so much bigger than myself.

I’m deeply honored to be a panelist for Cradled in Culture: Reclaiming the Legacy of Black Doula Care, a powerful film and conversation centering the voices, work, and impact of Black birth workers.

This isn’t just about birth work. It’s about reclaiming tradition, restoring community care, and creating spaces where Black families are supported with dignity, intention, and love.

If you’re in Atlanta, come be in the room. Come learn. Come connect. Come feel what it means to be held in culture.

Lake Atitlán gave me more than beauty, it gave me deeper confirmation.

During my time there, I learned my Mayan sign, Kawoq, and was told that I carry the spirit of a comadrona, Spanish for midwife. A sacred reminder that the work I do is ancestral, intuitive, and divinely guided.

I’m eternally grateful for the cultural enrichment, the wisdom shared, and the new perspectives gained while being held by this land, these waters, and its people.

This wasn’t just a journey it was alignment and I return to my work even more rooted in purpose. 🤍

Hey y’all… it’s been a minute. 👋🏾

For those who are new here, HI, I’m Della.

I’m a doula, childbirth educator, healer, advocate, human, student of life, and uplifter. I’m also a Black woman who believes deeply in the power of community, care, and honoring the sacredness of birth and healing.

I believe the idea that we’re all here to walk each other home and that philosophy lives at the heart of the work I do.

Whether it’s supporting someone through pregnancy, holding space during birth, offering postpartum care, or simply reminding someone to slow down and replenish… I believe our purpose is to show up for one another with compassion and presence.

That’s what Della The Doula is about.

Walking beside people during some of the most transformative moments of their lives and reminding them that they don’t have to do it alone.

If you’ve been here for a while, thank you for being part of this space. 🤎
If you’re new, welcome. I’m glad you’re here.

I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey for as long as you’ll have me. 🫶🏾

I got to hear Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara speak about what inspired their peaceful walk, the challenges we all face both as a society and internally with anger, and how we can support them through mindfulness. I’m inspired by his words and their efforts to influence the world to strive for peacefulness through their sacrifices. I pray they are safe and warm throughout the duration of their journey and know they will have all of their needs provided by God’s grace and the masses who support them.

Wrapping up Black Maternal Health Week with a full heart and renewed purpose. This week I poured into community and advocacy—attending the GBDN Conference, walking in solidarity at the BMMA Walk, and gaining wisdom at the MSM HeLa Symposium. I closed the week in the most sacred way: holding space for a beautiful family as they welcomed their first baby earthside. This is the work. This is the mission.
