There are moments in life you prepare for, and then there are moments that meet you in ways you didn’t fully anticipate.
Offering my initial sermon and being licensed as a minister was one of those moments.
I came prepared to preach, but what I experienced in return was something deeper, an overwhelming sense of gratitude, reflection, and awareness of the journey that brought me here. It has been a journey marked by growth, challenge, healing, transformation, and faith.
I carry this moment not only for myself, but for my grandparents, my parents, and my family. Across generations, faith, prayer, and trust have sustained us through histories shaped by colonialism, segregation, and the many realities that required perseverance and courage. What may look like an individual milestone, I experience as a collective one.
I am deeply grateful for those who showed up in love. My parents and childhood friends (and their families) who traveled from California to be present, dear friends who have walked with me across the years, mentors, professors, sorority sisters, church family, and the many who joined via livestream from across the country and beyond. Your presence and support mean more than I can fully express.
I’m also thankful for the spiritual guidance and leadership that helped shape this moment.
I’m still taking it all in: the conversations, the encouragement, and the ways the message resonated.
I remain honored and humbled as I continue discerning how God is calling me forward, integrating my work as a psychotherapist with trauma-informed, spiritual, and pastoral care as I walk alongside others in moments of pain, vulnerability, healing, and celebration.
More than anything, I’m grateful.
Grateful for the call.
Grateful for the willingness to keep saying yes.
Grateful for the grace that continues to sustain me.
To God be the glory.
