Is My Child Making Progress?

Have you ever just sat there after a session wondering "is this actually working?"
Progress in ABA is a lot like that little plant. It doesn't look like much some days. Then you look back a few weeks later and realize how far it's actually come. A tolerated transition. One more word. A calmer morning. It's easy to miss because you're watching it happen in real time.

That's part of why data collection matters so much behind the scenes. Your RBT and BCBA are tracking things you might not even notice, because growth is usually slow before it's obvious.

Small steps really do add up to big growth. If you're ever unsure where things stand, ask. Your team wants you to see the whole picture.

Christy Nguyen is proof that consistency is its own kind of superpower.
She shows up every day with the same efficiency and know-how, and she's the person people count on without even having to ask twice. Need something handled? Christy's already taking initiative before you finish the sentence. That kind of dependability is rare, and it doesn't happen by accident. It's a choice she makes over and over.

What's been especially rewarding to watch is her growth. The confidence she's built in her role didn't happen overnight, and it shows in how she carries herself now compared to when she started.

Commitment, compassion, honesty, and positivity show up in the small stuff just as much as the big stuff, and Christy brings all four to the table daily.

If you've ever wondered what it looks like when an RBT actually shows up for a family, look no further than Amy Bui.

Amy is the kind of therapist who adjusts her own schedule so a client can hit a community or peer goal, not because she's asked to, but because she gets that progress doesn't always happen on a tidy timeline. She's on time, she's organized, and caregivers consistently tell us how well she connects with their child. You can see it in the rapport she's built.

What really stands out is how she shows up in supervision. She's not just checking boxes. She wants to understand the "why" behind every target, and she brings sharp observations to the table that push everyone's thinking forward.

Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15, and we want to take a moment to recognize the families we work with who bring so much richness to our community here at Hidden Talents, from language to traditions to the ways culture shapes how a family communicates and connects.

Good ABA therapy meets families where they are. That means respecting the language spoken at home, understanding cultural values around family and caregiving, and building therapy plans that actually fit into a family's life instead of asking them to fit into ours.

To our Hispanic and Latino families, thank you for trusting us with your children. We're honored to be part of your journey.

Staff Shout-Out: Samantha Flemming ⭐

Samantha has a knack for turning everyday moments into learning opportunities. If a naturalistic teaching moment comes up mid-session, she takes it and runs with it instead of waiting for the "right" time. That kind of instinct comes from actually knowing your client, not just following a plan on paper.

She also stays in close communication with the BCBA and the family, making sure what's happening in session lines up with what's happening at home. That back-and-forth is a big part of why her client's environment stays consistent and why progress actually sticks.
