“The past is the past. Get over it.”
“You can’t blame your upbringing forever.”
“That happened years ago.”

But trauma doesn’t simply live in your memories, it can shape how your brain processes safety, regulates emotions, responds to perceived threats, forms relationships, and even how you see yourself.

Understanding where your patterns come from isn’t about making excuses. It’s about gaining the awareness needed to change them. Your past may explain you, but it doesn’t have to define you. Healing, however, is your responsibility.

Find a good psychotherapist. Be willing to face yourself, unlearn what no longer serves you, and do the work to become an even greater version of yourself.

The quality of your future depends, in part, on how much you’re willing to prioritize your mental health. 🧠🤍

Social media can be a beautiful place for connection, education, and perspective… but it should never replace discernment. 🧠

A post can make you think. A podcast can give you language. A TikTok can help you recognize a pattern. But none of those things know the full context of your life!

Be mindful of the advice you consume, the thoughts you rehearse, and the narratives you adopt as truth.

And remember: healing isn’t about becoming a person who never gets triggered, hurt, anxious, angry, or disappointed. It’s about developing the self-awareness and tools to recognize your patterns, regulate your responses, take accountability where necessary, and make healthier choices.

Content can support the journey, but unlicensed creators and podcasters cannot provide clinical care. Sometimes you don’t need another video to tell you what’s wrong.
You need a safe space to explore what’s happening within YOU. 🤍

Okay… with all these celebrity breakups, podcasts hosted by people with very little evidence OR expertise 😭 & the constant projections, victimizations, and trauma-ridden think pieces on our timelines… I had to come keep it real with y’all today.

A lot of the time, WE are the problem. 😂
You. Me. All of us.

We want the relationship. The family. The success. The health. The peace. But sometimes, we are standing in the way of the very life we keep saying we want.

That’s where the REAL inner work comes in.

Can you face yourself honestly enough to recognize your shadows? Understand where they came from, what activates them, and how they influence your choices & behaviors?

And when those parts of you get triggered, can you regulate yourself enough to choose differently? Because self-awareness without changed behavior is just awareness.

We can’t keep asking for healthy love while operating from unhealed wounds. Asking for success while avoiding discipline. Asking for peace while continuously feeding chaos. At some point, the life you’re trying to manifest requires a different version of YOU.

You cannot build the life you say you want while protecting the patterns keeping you from it. 🤍
And yes, I’m talking to myself too. 😂 NO ONE is above growth, healing and self-development in general.

Let’s get it ! The life want requires better.

Mental health doesn’t discriminate and neither should the conversation around it. 💚
Kehlani speaking openly about living with bipolar disorder is a reminder that prioritizing your mental health can look like setting boundaries, slowing down, seeking support, taking medication, going to therapy, protecting your peace, or simply acknowledging when you’re not okay.

For women especially, we’re often praised for how much we can carry. But wellness isn’t about proving how much you can withstand. You deserve a life that doesn’t require you to constantly recover from it.

At ✨ The SheTribe ✨ by The Shanae Benito Foundation 501 (c)(3) , we’re creating space for women to choose themselves, care for their minds and bodies, and have honest conversations about what wellness really looks like. 🌿

There is strength in saying, “My mental health has to be a priority.”

You can love someone deeply and still decide that their healing is not your responsibility.

Chisara Okehi, LCSW reminds us that there’s a difference between supporting someone and carrying them. Between having compassion and constantly sacrificing your own peace to manage someone else’s emotions, choices, or consequences.

Healthy boundaries don’t mean you stopped caring. Sometimes they mean you finally learned how to care without abandoning yourself in the process.

Care, but don’t carry. 💚

Okay friends … can we have a real convo? 🫣 We have to stop using “protecting my peace” as a cute way to avoid accountability, hard conversations, healthy confrontation, and necessary change!

Everything uncomfortable isn’t a threat to your peace!! Sometimes the discomfort is showing you exactly where the work is.

Boundaries matter. Walking away can be healthy. But so is asking yourself, “What part of this belongs to me?”.

Avoidance might give you temporary relief. Self-awareness, accountability, and healing are what move you toward internal peace. 🤍

Protect your peace, yes. But make sure you’re actually creating it, too.

Your emotions aren’t the problem. Not knowing what to do with them can be.

There’s neuroscience behind the simple act of putting feelings into words. Affect labeling, or naming what you’re experiencing, can help reduce emotional reactivity and support regulation.

This matters in everyday life just as much as it does in leadership. How we regulate emotion impacts how we communicate, make decisions, navigate relationships, handle conflict, and respond under pressure.

Whether you’re working on yourself or responsible for leading others, self awareness changes how you show up.

Just a few random reminders from my heart to yours 🤍
Not everything is black and white.
Your trauma isn’t a blueprint for someone else’s life.
Patterns are real, but so are exceptions.
And sometimes the biggest shift happens when you change the way you’re looking at the situation.

Mental wellness also looks like developing the capacity for nuance, perspective, accountability, and emotional safety.

Take what you need today. Leave what you don’t. 🤍✨

Sometimes people don’t need advice.
They need presence.
I have those days myself 🤍

Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults report lacking adequate social and emotional support. (cdc.gov)
Be kind because you never know what ppl are going through. Even behind the smiles.

If someone opens up to you, before offering a solution, ask yourself: Do they need me to fix it or simply feel it with them?

Food for thought.

I saw this and had to repost it !!! Children don’t just need to learn math and reading; they need to learn how to care for their minds and bodies. The habits we teach today become the coping skills they carry into adulthood.

Mental health education starts long before there’s a crisis.

Which of these are you intentionally teaching your child? 👀👀👀👀
