Maternal health is personal for me. After a traumatic hospital birth where I wasn’t heard, I chose a birthing center with midwives—and everything changed. With support from a doula, chiropractic care, and postpartum home visits, I saw what true care should look like.

Now, after 17 years as a nurse and as a Nurse Practitioner, I’m committed to being that change—providing childbirth education, postpartum home visits, and mental health support. Because Black women deserve to be heard, supported, and safe—every step of the way.

I had the honor of attending the 5th Annual NICU Black History Brunch with the amazing team at Emory Decatur Hospital — and it meant so much to be invited.

Having worked there in the past, it was incredibly special to return and celebrate alongside a unit that truly pours into their families and their babies.

Diversity in the NICU matters. When families see providers who understand their culture and experiences, it builds trust, comfort, and better outcomes — especially in a space as vulnerable as neonatal care.

This unit is one of a kind because of its heart, excellence, and commitment to equity. I’m grateful to have once been part of it and honored to still be connected to the work they’re doing. 💛

Postpartum is not the time to “push through.” It’s the time to be supported, soothed, and fed 🫶🏽
Here are some REAL postpartum essentials every new parent deserves:

✨ Ni**le Cream
Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, or combo feeding—your ni***es are working overtime. A good, clean ni**le cream helps heal cracks, prevent pain, and make feeding more comfortable so you can focus on bonding, not wincing.

✨ Tuck Pads
These little pads are a postpartum lifesaver. Cooling, soothing, and perfect for hemorrhoids, swelling, and stitches. Keep them stocked—you’ll thank yourself later.

✨ Padsicles (aka frozen pads)
Cold therapy + healing = YES. Padsicles help reduce swelling, ease pain, and support healing after vaginal birth. First few days postpartum? Non-negotiable.

✨ Healthy, Nourishing Meals
Your body just did something miraculous. It needs real fuel—warm meals, protein, iron-rich foods, hydration. Healing, milk production, energy, and mood all start with nourishment. Meal prep, meal trains, or asking for help is not a weakness—it’s wisdom.

💗 Postpartum care is healthcare.
You matter just as much as the baby.
Rest. Heal. Be cared for.

Save this. Share this. Send it to a pregnant mama 🤍

✨ Happy New Year Jerri NP! ✨

As we welcome 2026, we want to take a moment to say thank you. We are incredibly grateful for every referral, every family, and every provider who trusted us throughout 2025. Your support allowed us to serve our community with purpose and heart, and we do not take that lightly.

Looking ahead, we are excited to expand our services in Georgia so we can support even more families. We are currently pending with the following insurance companies to improve access to care:
• Tricare
• United Healthcare
• Cigna
• Aetna
• Kaiser (hopefully coming soon!)

This flu season has been especially tough, and protecting our babies remains a top priority. We encourage all families to stay vigilant with frequent handwashing, limiting exposure when possible, and supporting immune health with rest, proper nutrition, breastfeeding when able, and pediatrician-recommended immune boosters.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your village. We look forward to continuing to grow, serve, and support families with compassion and quality care in the year ahead.

Here’s to a healthy, thriving New Year! 💙

🩺✨ A Day in the Life of a Maternal Health NP

Today reminded me why I love this work. 💛

Started my morning with two postpartum visits—full mom + baby checks, including postpartum assessments, newborn exams, CCHD screening, and lactation support. Supporting moms in the fourth trimester never gets old.

Then headed to Spelman College for a powerful maternal health event. Our panel of experts talked with students about integrative + alternative maternal health and how they can be part of the change in Black maternal wellness.

Ended the day with a childbirth education session filled with breathing techniques, figure-8s, ball work, step exercises, and curb walking—helping my client prep her body and mind for labor.

And through it all, I’m reminded that as an NP I get to give BOTH holistic care and evidence-based western care.
Truly the best of both worlds. 🤍

🌿 Happy Nurse Practitioner Week! 🌿

This week, we celebrate the more than 385,000 Nurse Practitioners (NPs) across the U.S. who are transforming healthcare every single day. 💉✨

Nurse Practitioners bring a unique blend of clinical excellence and compassionate care—combining the science of medicine with the art of nursing. Studies show that care provided by NPs is just as safe, effective, and patient-centered as physician care—often with higher patient satisfaction rates and better access to care in communities that need it most. 🙌🏽

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I have the privilege to:
🩺 Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions
💊 Prescribe medications and create treatment plans
🏥 Order and interpret labs and imaging
💬 Provide mental health support and counseling
👩🏽‍🍼 Deliver holistic maternal health care—from pregnancy to postpartum
💖 Educate, empower, and advocate for patients and families

In my maternal health practice, I’ve seen firsthand how NPs bridge the gap in women’s healthcare—helping mothers feel seen, safe, and supported through every stage of their journey. From newborn assessments to postpartum recovery, from lactation support to mental wellness, NPs are redefining what whole-person care looks like. 🌸

Nurse Practitioners are helping reshape Western medicine—bringing accessibility, prevention, and personalized care to the forefront of modern healthcare.

So here’s to my fellow NPs—leading with knowledge, nurturing with heart, and showing the world that advanced practice nursing isn’t just a role—it’s a revolution. 💪🏽💚

✨ Post Idea: Tremors After Labor — and Why Preparation Matters ✨

Many moms experience tremors or shaking after labor — and it’s completely normal! 💕 Your body just went through a powerful transformation. Hormones are shifting, adrenaline is releasing, and your body is recalibrating after the incredible work of bringing life into the world.

The key? Preparation.
When you prepare your mind and body for birth — through education, breathing, nutrition, movement, and emotional readiness — your labor can be shorter, smoother, and more efficient. 🌿 Your body knows what to do, and you trust the process.

This mama birthed with two outstanding midwives, surrounded by love, wisdom, and support. 🤍 Because when you prepare and have the right birth team, your body responds beautifully — even in the tremors, there’s strength and triumph.

👣 Postpartum Swelling: What’s Normal & What’s Not 🌸

A little swelling after birth is common — your body is flushing out all that extra fluid from pregnancy. ✅ It usually improves within 1–2 weeks.

⚠️ Keep an eye out if you notice:
• Sudden swelling in face, hands, or eyes
• One leg bigger, red, or painful (possible clot)
• Headaches, vision changes, or high blood pressure
• Swelling that keeps getting worse instead of better

✨ Relief tips: elevate your feet, stay hydrated, move gently, and try compression socks.

💕 Remember: Some swelling = normal healing. Worsening swelling or new symptoms = time to call your provider.
