Books That Give Back

Did you know we have books too โ€” and every purchase supports TNP Foundation's work in schools and communities? ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒฟ

Mindful Moments โ€” 30 engaging mindfulness activities for kids, written by Danielle Brunson, Ed.S, MAED.

Liam Learns to Calm Down โ€” a children's book by Danielle Brunson and Renelyn Thomas, following one kid learning real tools for regulation.

Mindfulness for Kids: Hands-On Art Activities for Mindful Children โ€” by Alice Vogler, Danielle Brunson, and Dr. Kali Arnold, with illustrations by Kate Szumita.

Every one of these came out of years of actually being in classrooms with kids โ€” not theory, but tools that work. And every purchase goes toward funding the mental health and mindfulness programming TNP Foundation brings to schools that need it.

Did you know it's hard for the body to unwind if the space around it isn't set up right? ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

The nervous system takes in more than a schedule break โ€” it takes in aesthetic, sound, texture, light. A folding chair under fluorescent lights doesn't tell your body it's safe to relax, no matter how many minutes

That's why when we build wellness areas at conferences and events, we think about all of it: soft textures, warm lighting, calming scent, sound bowls, a mat and cushion that actually invite you to sit down. The goal isn't just "here's a break room" โ€” it's a space engineered so people can actually reset, even for five minutes between sessions.

Because rest isn't just about time. It's about whether the space lets your body believe it's safe enough to take it.

Beecher Hills Elementary โ€” Yoga Kids Actually Love

Yoga for kids doesn't look anything like yoga for adults, and honestly, that's the whole point. ๐ŸŽˆ

Games. Songs. Silly poses. A birthday sash and a warrior pose. A kid who'd rather look at the camera than hold the stretch. This is what it actually looks like when yoga meets an elementary school gym โ€” loud, playful, a little chaotic, and exactly right for the kids in the room.

Behind the fun, the same tools are still there: breath work, body awareness, moments of stillness between the giggles. Kids don't need a quiet studio to build a regulation practice. They need games, colors, movement, and a little joy.

This is why we love this work.

Weflection Preview โ€” The Silent Signals We All Send

A sneak peek inside Weflection. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Nonverbal communication โ€” something we use every single day and almost never think about. Facial expression. Tone of voice. How you stand, walk, breathe, move.
Whether your arms are crossed or open, whether your eyes are scanning or focused.

These are all silent signals โ€” messages your body sends out even when you're not saying a word. And whether you mean to or not, they shape how the people around you feel.

Here's why it matters: your nervous system is constantly reading cues from everyone around you, whether you realize it or not.

FREEZE: When Shutting Down Feels Safer.

A kid who's procrastinating, avoiding, or "stuck" on a task isn't always being lazy โ€” sometimes the nervous system has hit overwhelm and shut down to conserve energy. Freeze is the body's way of surviving when it feels like there's no way out. ๐Ÿฅถ
Here's how that can look at different ages, and what actually helps:

Little ones (ages 3โ€“6):
Freeze often looks like going quiet, still, or unusually compliant when things get overwhelming โ€” not the tantrum you might expect, but the opposite. Don't mistake stillness for calm. Offer gentle physical connection (a hand on the back, sitting close) rather than a big response, and keep instructions down to one small step at a time.

Elementary (ages 7โ€“10):
This is often where you'll see procrastination, "I don't know" on repeat, or a kid who seems checked out during homework or class. Break tasks into the smallest possible steps and create predictability โ€” freeze eases when the next step feels manageable and known, not when there's pressure to push through.

Preteens & teens (11โ€“17):
Freeze here can look like withdrawal, exhaustion, avoidance, or a teen who seems unreachable behind a closed door. Resist pushing for a conversation right away. Offer connection without pressure โ€” a text, sitting nearby, a low-key activity together โ€” and encourage movement or fresh air, which can help thaw a frozen nervous system more than talking does.

Across every age, the same things help: gentle connection, breaking tasks into small steps, predictability, movement, and validating the feeling instead of adding pressure.

What looks like laziness is often overwhelm. ๐Ÿฉท

Weflection Preview โ€” Understanding Hyperarousal

Once kids understand how their body actually works, they're far more likely to use the tools instead of just being told to. ๐Ÿง

A sneak peek inside Weflection.

Ever felt like your body suddenly hit the gas pedal? Heart pounding, muscles tight, brain racing? That's hyperarousal โ€” a natural nervous system response to stress, not a malfunction.

Your brain has a built-in alarm system. When it detects something it reads as a threat โ€” real danger, a big test, a conflict with a friend, even a sudden change โ€” it shifts into high alert. This is your sympathetic nervous system, where the "fight or flight" response comes from. Stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol flood in, your heart races, your breath goes short, your muscles tense, your thoughts narrow in on the problem.

None of it is random. It's your body trying to protect you, act fast, and survive.

Trauma shows up in the body โ€” most yoga teachers were never trained for that. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ
This is the Trauma-Informed Yoga module, part of our 200-Hour YTT, taught by Deana Panza, MS, LPC, RYT (Licensed Professional Counselor, trained with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk). You'll learn how trauma impacts the nervous system, trauma-sensitive vinyasa and restorative practices, how to create safe and inclusive spaces, and how to adapt yoga for diverse experiences and bodies.
This is the piece that turns a yoga class into a genuinely safe space โ€” and it's available as a standalone module too.
