I run a free service helping people find senior communities, and I write extensively about the best ways for older adults to achieve the highest quality of life. My passion for this work is deeply personal.
Over 20 years ago, my mother had her first major stroke. I remember feeling completely unprepared and frightened because I had no idea what I was doing. I muddled through, and eventually guided her to an independent life that she described as some of the best years of her life.
A few years later, my father was diagnosed with Parkinson, a journey with its own distinct challenges. He had many good years ahead of him, but my biggest regret is not convincing him to move to a senior community sooner.
As more and more friends began recognizing my expertise and asking for help, I realized there was a real need for someone to counsel families, not simply hand them a list of nearby communities. It's gratifying work, and I feel very fortunate to spend my days helping make other people's lives better.
