Beautiful Souls - I hesitated for days with sharing this as I know this post will be sensitive for many as it’s easier to continue with the festivities without acknowledging the hard truth. However, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that history is often distorted and the things that we think we know are partial truths at best. Yes, it’s important to celebrate family and honor the community you have so my post is not about stopping that. Rather, it’s a call for us to become more responsible with educating ourselves about WHY we are celebrating each holiday.

WHAT IS NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING (NDOM)?
The National Day of Mourning began in 1970 and is held annually in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It is a solemn, spiritual and highly political day where many Native Americans/Indigenous people fast from sundown the day before through the afternoon of the NDOM. They mourn their ancestors, the genocide of their people, and the theft of our lands, and also find strength in their actions marked by a march through Plymouth’s historic district. They do not celebrate the romanticized version of Thanksgiving.

Self care looks different for all of us. It could be a massage, getting hair or nails done, meditation, eating healthy. Whatever it is for you, here’s a reminder to give yourself flowers 💐 (love, attention, support, recognition, etc.) and instead of only waiting for the external world to give it to you. I bought these today because I am worthy!
