We all make plans and dreams for the future, but oh, that sting of disappointment, frustration, maybe even anger and bitterness when you finally acknowledge, ‘This is NOT how I thought things would go’.

We have a saying in the Marine Corps that when things don’t go as planned, we’d say to each other, “Semper Gumby,” which means ‘always flexible.’

Every season is an opportunity to trust and learn how to hold your plans and dreams more loosely, allowing God to take the lead, to go before you. Keep this perspective long enough and you become Semper Gumby, bendable, but not breakable.

It’s an inexplicable mystery of God how He works out all things for our good, and yet we can trust that in His sovereignty, in His goodness, God is weaving and orchestrating a tapestry of stories to the praise of His glory, a glory we all will partake in.

So, grieve, cry, process the disappointment, and then set your eyes and fix your gaze on the living God. Then, and only then will your hope be restored.

What do you believe about yourself? Do you believe you have value, purpose and worth?

You can either go through this season or grow through it. Purpose in yourself to do the latter.
