Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke. One in five women will have a stroke in their lifetime. But too many people still don't recognize the warning signs quickly enough, and that gap costs lives.

When someone is having a stroke, brain cells begin to die. B.E. F.A.S.T. isn't just six letters. It could be the difference between life and death, maybe for someone you love.

Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States. But many women don't realize their warning signs can look very different from what some people expect.

While chest pain is the most common symptom for both men and women, some women experience signs that may be overlooked, like nausea, extreme fatigue or pain in the jaw or upper back. When those signs go unrecognized, women wait longer for care. And that delay can be deadly.

The American Heart Association is working to change that through research, education, and awareness programs focused specifically on women. These symptoms aren't minor details. They're warning signs that deserve immediate attention.
