It’s hard to rest when you’re already thinking about everything that will be waiting when you get up.

The children still need care. Bills still need paying. And for some people, taking time off means losing income they depend on.

In my work with people after surgery, these everyday details matter. Someone may understand their recovery plan and want to follow it, while struggling to make it possible at home.

Before assuming someone is doing too much by choice, ask what support they actually have.

Could someone handle the school pickup? Bring a meal? Take care of the laundry without leaving them to organise it all?

If this is your experience, let your care team know which instructions are hardest to manage. Those difficulties deserve a place in the conversation.

What was the hardest part of everyday life to manage while you were recovering?

A reset begins a transition.

It may be a moment when the breath slows, the muscles soften, and the sense of urgency begins to ease.

That does not mean the body has been completely transformed. It means the body has experienced another way of responding.

When the body has spent months or years bracing, pushing, or staying alert, one supportive experience can become the beginning of something different.

With consistency, you may recognize tension sooner, respond to your needs earlier, and become more aware of what supports or depletes your capacity.

A reset creates the shift.

Recovery is how the body gradually builds from it.

A reset does not have to be dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like a slower breath, softer muscles, and a body that feels a little less urgency.

That small shift matters. It gives the nervous system a chance to experience something different, and sometimes that is where recovery begins.

Pregnancy loss can bring many different emotions.

Sadness. Numbness. Relief. Anger. Exhaustion. Confusion.

And while so much attention understandably goes to the emotional experience, the body may still be adjusting too.

Some days may call for rest.
Some may feel ordinary.
Some may feel unexpectedly difficult.

There is no one right way to move through it.

Sometimes care is simply quiet, company, privacy, a little less noise, or one small thing that makes the day easier.

Your experience does not have to look a certain way to deserve care.

New, severe, unusual, or worsening physical symptoms should be medically evaluated.

Postpartum recovery is more than “bouncing back.”

Your body is adapting to a new physical season, and recovery may look different from day to day.

Some days need more movement. Some days need more rest.

Both can be part of recovery.

Many women enter perimenopause feeling as though their body has suddenly stopped responding the way it used to.

The same workouts may feel harder to recover from. Sleep may no longer feel as restorative. Puffiness, stiffness, inflammation, and sensitivity to stress may appear more easily.

It is easy to assume the answer is more discipline, more exercise, more restriction, or more pressure. But perimenopause is not always a discipline problem.

It can be a shift in recovery capacity.

As the body changes, the way it is supported may need to change too. That may mean more restorative pacing, adaptive pressure, breath support, fascial mobility, nervous-system-aware care, and support for lymphatic flow.

MLIM™ does not treat perimenopause or directly balance hormones. It supports the systems carrying the transition through intelligent, adaptive, and non-forceful care.

Perimenopause is a capacity shift, not a personal failure.

One of the fastest ways to lose confidence during recovery is by comparing yourself to someone else's.

You may have had the same procedure. But you don't have the same body, the same surgeon, the same health history, or the same healing response.

Even two people with the same surgery can have very different recoveries. Your progress should never be measured against someone else's social media timeline.

Comparison creates anxiety. Understanding creates confidence.

Every body heals at its own pace, and knowing that changes how recovery feels, week by week.

One of the biggest misconceptions about recovery is that every day should feel better than the one before it.
It rarely works that way. Less swelling one day, tighter the next. Softer in one area, firmer in another. Energy that shifts without warning.
None of that automatically means something is wrong. Healing moves in phases, not a straight line, and looking at your progress week by week almost always tells a more honest story than judging it day by day.

“Trust the process” sounds simple.

But around week two after surgery, many people start to feel confused.

Swelling may feel more noticeable. Tightness may increase. Stiffness may feel stronger. Your body may feel different than it did during the first few days.

And that can feel scary.

But in many cases, this does not mean you are going backward.

As anesthesia, local numbing medication, and pain medication begin to wear off, your body’s natural healing response becomes more noticeable. Inflammation, fluid movement, and tissue repair are all part of that process.

Recovery is not just about waiting.

It is about understanding what your body is experiencing along the way.

The more you understand the process, the easier it becomes to trust it.

Educational purposes only. Always follow your surgeon’s specific post-operative instructions.

When most people prepare for surgery, they focus on the procedure itself.

The surgeon. The cost. The date. The supplies. The logistics.

But one of the most important recovery questions often comes before all of that:

Is this actually the right time in my life to heal?

Post-operative recovery is not separate from your real life. It happens around your work schedule, your children, your support system, your travel plans, the holidays, and your ability to slow down long enough for your body to repair.

There is no perfect month to have surgery. There is no perfect season. But there are seasons that give your body more support, more space, and more capacity to recover well.

Recovery does not start after surgery.

Recovery starts before surgery.

I’m currently creating a free guide called Recovery Starts Before Surgery: Choosing the Right Time to help people think through the timing, support, and life factors that often get overlooked before scheduling a procedure.

What factors influenced the timing of your surgery? Or if you’re planning one, what are you thinking about most?
