$215 Million for Women's Health. And Menopause Is Part of the Conversation.

For this edition of Nore Women's Health's What We're Reading with Julie Morin, WHNP-BC, we're sharing something worth watching: Melinda French Gates' conversation with USA TODAY about investing in women's health and why midlife and menopause deserve more attention.

Gates discusses the need for better provider training, greater access to knowledgeable care, and support that helps women continue thriving at work and in their everyday lives.

At Nore Women's Health, we see every day why this matters. Women deserve more research, better information, and access to providers who understand what they're experiencing.
It's encouraging to see menopause gaining the national attention it deserves

What We’re Reading: Could menopause timing and HRT affect Alzheimer’s risk?
Is there a “window of opportunity” to protect women’s brain health?
A recent Scientific American article highlights two new studies examining menopause, hormone therapy and Alzheimer’s disease—and the findings raise some fascinating questions about women’s health in midlife.

Read the full article, Could Menopause Timing and Hormone Therapy Affect Alzheimer’s Risk?, in What We’re Reading in the Nore Learning Center. https://norehealth.com/menopause-hormone-therapy-alzheimers-risk/

One study found that an earlier age at menopause was associated with faster cognitive decline and earlier Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Another found lower rates of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease among women who had used hormone replacement therapy (HRT), with timing appearing to play an important role.

Does this mean HRT prevents Alzheimer’s? These studies don’t establish that. They show associations—not proof that hormone therapy prevents dementia—and HRT is not currently recommended specifically for Alzheimer’s prevention

What the research does underscore is something we believe deserves more attention: menopause isn’t only about hot flashes. The hormonal changes of midlife may have implications for brain, bone, cardiovascular, metabolic and overall long-term health.
In our latest What We’re Reading, we break down the new research and share From Our Perspective on what women should know.

Menopause Is Finally Getting National Attention

Menopause is a normal stage of life, but “normal” should never mean overlooked, minimized, or endured in silence
Congress recently held its first-ever hearing focused specifically on menopause, shining a national spotlight on long-standing gaps in menopause research, clinician education, and access to appropriate care. While one hearing will not solve those challenges on its own, it is an important sign that menopause is increasingly being recognized as a meaningful health issue deserving of serious attention.

For many women, perimenopause and menopause can involve much more than hot flashes. Symptoms may affect sleep, mood, concentration, sexual health, bleeding patterns, comfort, work, relationships, and overall well-being. Some women have mild symptoms; for others, symptoms can be disruptive for years.

At Nore Women’s Health, we believe care should begin with listening. That means looking at the whole person—not just one symptom and discussing options based on individual symptoms, medical history, preferences, risks, and health goals. For some, that may include hormone therapy; for others, nonhormonal options, lifestyle strategies, or symptom-specific treatments may be more appropriate.

Our hope is that this growing attention leads to practical change: better research, better clinician training, better access to care, and fewer women feeling dismissed, confused, or alone.

"It's been a month & no hot flashes!"

A patient came to us with 5–10 hot flashes a day and nights she couldn't sleep through.
A few weeks after starting hormone therapy with Sydney Jeans, WHNP, she sent this:

"Took a couple weeks after starting hormones, but it's been a month & no hot flashes! Thank you Sydney!! ❤️"

Another patient, on her hormone pellet visit:

"I had my hormone pellets done by NP Sydney Jeans and didn't feel a thing! She is very knowledgeable about hormones and she really does have the best bedside manner!"

Hot flashes, broken sleep, mood shifts?? You don't have to guess at what's happening in perimenopause or menopause. Sydney is a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner with specialized hormone training (Bachelor of Science in Biology University of Georgia , Master of Science in Nursing Vanderbilt) and a Cobb County native bringing that care home to East Cobb.

Today’s East Cobb shout-out goes to Krystle Millikan, PA-C!
When women come to Nore feeling overwhelmed by perimenopause or post menopause symptoms, we want them to leave feeling heard, supported, and better informed about what’s happening in their bodies.

That’s exactly what one of our patients shared about her experience with Krystle Millikan, PA-C, at our East Cobb clinic:

“I had such a positive experience with my provider, Krystle at the Nore Women’s Clinic in East Cobb. During a time when I was feeling overwhelmed by perimenopause symptoms, she not only helped me find relief but also took the time to truly educate me and provide the support I needed.”

Thank you, for sharing your experience and a well-deserved shout-out to Krystle for making a difference in the lives of East Cobb women.

At Nore Women’s Health, we believe your care should include time for your questions, clear education about your options, and a provider who listens.
