It’s funny... a few weeks ago, a trending YouTuber was spreading the idealism that a Down syndrome diagnosis would somehow diminish a family’s life, future, or overall measured happiness. Meanwhile, over here at JJP, our DM has been filling up with families from the Down syndrome community.

And TBH, I think we’d rather hear from them. We would MUCH rather hear from the parents raising these incredible kids, the siblings who grow up alongside them, the families who have been forever changed because of them.

Families like Kinlin’s.

As I read through his mom JJP questionnaire, I found a quote that I loved:

“We truly hit the jackpot.”

Before Kinlin was born, Dani lost her dad, and at the same time, her mom was battling stage IV ovarian cancer. Dani and her husband, , were raising twins, navigating unimaginable grief, and getting ready to welcome a new baby into the world when an unexpected Down syndrome diagnosis entered their story.

And yet, when Dani and her husband talk about Kinlin, they don’t focus on what was lost; they talk about what their family gained. A son who made his siblings kinder, who taught his family to slow down, and helped them find light in places they may have otherwise missed.

One of my top things Dani shared was this:

“People often see the diagnosis before they see the gift. We get the privilege of seeing the gift first.”

People can debate diagnoses all day long, but we’d rather introduce you to the people living them. Today, meet Kinlin. 🤍

Two (I thought It was three until I fact checked and realized how young he really was 😭) years old. Sometimes vulnerability when building something important with the people who are ready to do It with you, is incredibly important. This photo showed up in my memories this week, and whew... At the time, Jude was recovering from surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids (after we were told this would “fix” It all). We didn’t know about the neurological birth defect, the autism, the epilepsy, the vision challenges, or all the pieces that would eventually help us understand who he is.

What we did know was that he was our Jude, who quite literally resembled George from Stuart Little. Looking back now, I wish I could go back and tell that version of us something important:

You’re doing the right thing, and one day you’ll live a much humbler life that you didn’t even know was there.

As JJP continues to grow, I’ve found myself reflecting a lot on where it all began. Every time a memory like this appears, it feels like a reminder of the gift we were given to serve through Jude’s journey. What once felt like uncertainty became passion and purpose, and what once felt like surviving each day became a foundation for growth.

This year feels like a season of planting seeds, and so many have already begun to grow. Each family we meet, story we tell, and portrait we create reminds us why we started in the first place.

It is the belief here that every person deserves to be seen. Every story you all share with us deserves to be told in the midst of all the celebrations or the battlefields. And every family deserves photographs that reflect the beauty, dignity, and value that have been there all along.

We are grateful for the foundation that brought us here, and we’re committed to continuing to nurture it as it grows into something even bigger than we imagined.

This is our why.

The funny thing is, we haven’t know for very long. In fact, our time together was relatively short. BUT sometimes the people who leave the biggest impact on our hearts are the ones we least expect.

Matthew has a way of making people feel welcome. He leads with kindness and authenticity that is completely his own. After spending time with him and learning of his Autism diagnosis, we couldn’t stop talking about him and how we hope our own son will love this part of himself, too.

A simple introduction became a friendship.
A friendship became inspiration.
And that inspiration became a collection.

Around here, we believe representation matters. We believe everyone deserves to feel like they belong. And we believe neurodivergence is something to celebrate, not hide.

Apparently I need to clear something up... Since our story aired, I’ve realized a surprising number of people thought I was either Jude or Jojo (lol).

For the record, I’m Elizabeth. A disability advocate, founder, and most importantly, a mom trying to keep up with three boys ages 5 and under. And these are the boys behind the name.

Jude is my oldest son and the inspiration behind JJP. He is diagnosed with autism, epilepsy, global developmental delay, and vision impairment. If you’d like to learn more about his journey, you can find his story in the Crew section of our website.

Jojo is his younger brother, biggest fan, and one of the many reasons I believe so deeply in the power of community and belonging. And before anyone asks... yes, there is actually a third J in the mix now.

Our youngest son, Jack (Jagger), joined the family after I had already chosen the name Jude&Jojos Photography. At that point, three J’s felt like a lot to get creative with TBH, so the name stuck. 😅

Like many of the families we serve, our days are filled with therapy, school drop-offs, snack requests, endless laundry (and I mean endless...), and trying to be present during the most difficult days. Long before there was a crew, a website, or late nights of hard work, there was just a mom trying to preserve the moments she never wanted to forget.

What started as a way to embrace my own children has grown into a community dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities and their families feel seen, celebrated, and represented.

So if you’ve recently connected, it’s nice to meet you officially. And if you’ve been here with us, thank you for loving our family (including my husband, the ghost co-founder) and the mission our kids inspired.

UPDATE: It is now four crew and their portraits 😭 my heart is so full! Let’s go Nolan and Hyrum 🥳

This past Monday was a day I’ll never forget. So we decided to share this a day earlier than planned... While many of you were watching our feature, we received another piece of news that left me completely speechless.

TWO JJP Crew members were selected to have their JJP portraits featured on the National Down Syndrome Society Times Square Jumbotron during the National Buddy Walk this September.

Let that sink in for a moment. Two individuals from our community displayed in one of the most recognizable places in the world! This is why representation matters and why our storytelling matters. Because disability stories belong everywhere.

What started as a small mission to help families feel seen has now helped carry the stories of our Crew all the way to Times Square. And here’s the exciting part...

We’ll be there!

JJP representatives will be attending the NDSS National Buddy Walk in New York City this September, and we’d love for our ambassadors, families, supporters, and community members to join us.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience one of the largest celebrations of the Down syndrome community in the country, now is the time.

We are currently soaking in the gratitude from our home city in Georgia to Times Square.

A little over a year ago, was just an idea born from a little boy named Jude, a diagnosis, and a desire to help families feel seen.

Today, that mission was shared with thousands through .

What I loved most about this feature is that it wasn’t really about JJP. It was about Becca June. It was about .startt . It was about a family who has trusted JJP from the very beginning and allowed us into some of their most vulnerable, happy, and meaningful moments. It was about the stories that exist behind every diagnosis and the importance of creating space for those stories to be told.

Reporter took the time to not only learn about JJP, but to learn about the families that inspire it. .preheim and the entire 11Alive team helped bring that story to life, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the care they showed our community throughout the process.

One of the things I often say is that JJP isn’t really about photography. Photography is simply the tool. The mission has always been to help individuals with disabilities and their families feel seen, celebrated, and valued exactly as they are... to challenge assumptions, to create belonging, and to tell stories that too often go untold.

Every portrait featured represents a family who trusted us with their story, and every Crew member represents a life that deserves to be recognized. Every partnership represents a community coming together to create something bigger than any one person could accomplish alone.

If you’ve followed our journey, shared a post, recommended a family, partnered with us, or trusted us with your story... we thank you. You are the reason JJP continues to move forward with a steadfast heart.
