To the mom who is pouring from an empty cup today: we see you. 🌸

During Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, we often talk about the newborn days, but maternal mental health matters at every stage of motherhood. Whether your child is two months old or twelve years old, the mental load of being a mother can be incredibly overwhelming.

In many cultures, the "Supermom" who sacrifices her own sanity, sleep, and peace for her children is heavily glorified. But you cannot be the anchor for your family if you are actively sinking. Your feelings of exhaustion, anxiety, or sadness are valid, and seeking psychiatric support to regulate your nervous system is a sign of immense strength, not failure.

You deserve to feel like you again. Link in bio to schedule a consultation with a provider who understands. 💜

Does asking for space in your house immediately trigger an argument?

A very common narrative in cultural communities is that children (even grown, adult children) owe their parents total transparency at all times. If you don't share every detail of your marriage, your finances, or your mental health, you are accused of being "sneaky" or disrespectful.

But having a private life does not mean you are doing something wrong. Healthy relationships thrive on trust and individual autonomy, not total surveillance and control. Therapy can help you navigate the immense guilt that comes with finally claiming your right to privacy. 🦋

If you spent your whole life being the family mediator, the translator, or the reliable eldest daughter, this is your reminder: you belong to yourself first.

Taking a step back to protect your mental health is not a betrayal of your culture or your family. Saying "I am not going to discuss this right now" is not a crime. Setting a boundary around how people speak to you is not disrespectful.

Healing begins when you stop viewing your own basic needs as an inconvenience to everyone else. 🌿

"We are just a very close family."

In many cultural and immigrant households, the line between healthy closeness and toxic enmeshment is completely blurred. Enmeshment happens when there are zero emotional or physical boundaries between family members. Your business is everyone's business, and wanting a closed door is treated like a deep betrayal.

Over time, this lack of separation trains your nervous system to constantly monitor and manage your family's emotions instead of your own. It leads to severe codependency and high-functioning anxiety.

At Bahr Holistic Psychiatry, we help you untangle your identity from your family’s expectations so you can finally breathe on your own. 🌱

Another trip around the sun! ☀️🎂 As I celebrate my birthday this year, I find myself reflecting heavily on the power of gratitude.

Growing a business has its challenges, and life will always throw curveballs, but I am so deeply thankful for my health, the unwavering support of my family, and the beautiful community I get to serve every day.
From a psychiatric perspective, practicing gratitude isn't just about "thinking positive"—it actually rewires your brain! Taking a moment to acknowledge the good things in your life actively lowers cortisol, reduces anxiety, and boosts your overall mental health.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes and for being on this journey with me. What is one thing you are grateful for today? Let me know below! 👇🏾🦋

July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month; a time to recognize the unique mental health challenges faced by many communities while celebrating resilience, culture, and healing.

Mental health does not discriminate—but access to care often does.

Too many people delay getting help because of stigma, fear of judgment, cultural expectations, financial barriers, or difficulty finding a provider who understands their lived experiences.

At Bahr Holistic Psychiatry, we believe everyone deserves compassionate, culturally responsive, and evidence-based mental health care.

Whether you’re living with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or simply feeling overwhelmed, you deserve support without shame.

This month, let’s work together to:
🤝 Break the stigma
🧠 Normalize mental health conversations
❤️ Support one another
🌍 Make mental health care more accessible for every community

If this message resonates with you, share it with someone who may need the reminder that healing is possible.

"Masking" is a survival mechanism. When you are neurodivergent but grow up in a highly structured cultural household, you learn very quickly to hide your sensory issues, force eye contact, and suppress your true needs just to avoid criticism.

But masking requires a massive amount of cognitive energy. When you spend your entire day pretending your nervous system isn't overwhelmed, it eventually leads to a devastating crash—often misdiagnosed as just anxiety or depression.

At Bahr Holistic Psychiatry, we look beyond the surface. We can help you unmask safely, understand your unique brain, and build a life that actually accommodates your needs. 🌱

For decades, you may have asked yourself, "Why is everything so much harder for me than it is for everyone else?"

When simple tasks like answering emails, going to the grocery store, or attending family dinners leave you completely depleted, it is easy to internalize the blame. You start believing that you are flawed, lazy, or inadequate.

But the truth is, the modern world with its bright lights, relentless demands, and unspoken social rules was heavily designed for neurotypical brains. Your exhaustion is a valid response to an overwhelming environment. Healing begins when you stop trying to fix yourself and start learning how to accommodate your beautiful, unique mind. 🌿
