1 in 5 mothers will experience a perinatal mental health disorder (PMHD), yet many don’t recognize the signs until they’re already struggling.

PMHD symptoms can look like:
• Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or constantly on edge
• Persistent sadness, numbness, or hopelessness
• Racing or intrusive thoughts
• Difficulty bonding or feeling like “yourself”
• Trouble sleeping, even when your baby sleeps

These are not failures.
These are signs you may need support.

When we connect the dots, we make maternal mental health visible. And when it’s visible, it becomes treatable, supportable, and understood.

1 in 5 parents will experience a perinatal mental health disorder (PMHD) during or after pregnancy. PMHDs
are the #1 complication of childbirth. And yet...most parents navigate it in silence.

That silence is what we’re here to break.

This May, Postpartum Support International and The Blue Dot Project are sharing the statistics, stories, support, and solidarity about perinatal mental health disorders so that every parent knows they are not alone, they are not to blame, and with help, they WILL be well.

Today, May 3 is International Bereaved Mother’s Day, a day created in 2010 by loss mom Carly Marie Dudley in memory of her stillborn son, Christian. It’s observed the first Sunday of May as a space where bereaved mothers can be seen, celebrated, and held by community.

Whether you’ve experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, or infertility, you are not alone, and PSI is here for you 🔵

Postpartum Psychosis is a Medical Emergency.
It occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1,000 deliveries.

Postpartum Psychosis requires medical treatment.
It is not something a mother can “push” through.

Recognizing the signs matters.
Seeking immediate care matters.

Symptoms can appear quickly, wax and wane, and may include disorientation, delusions, or extreme mood changes.

This is a critical dot.
Connecting it means helping a mother access the support and treatment she deserves.
