Most people don’t realize this…

A father is often the first curriculum a child ever studies.

Before they read a book…

Before they sit in a classroom…

Before they learn how to shake a hand, control their anger, handle rejection, love themselves, respect authority, or believe they are valuable…

They are watching him.

How he talks.

How he handles pressure.

How he treats their mother.

How he responds when life gets hard.

How he shows up when nobody is clapping.

That’s fatherhood.

It’s not just paying bills.

It’s not just being in the house.

It’s not just posting pictures on birthdays and holidays.

Fatherhood is a leadership position.

And the crazy part is…

A lot of men are trying to lead businesses, teams, clients, churches, communities, and organizations…

But they have not fully accepted the assignment of leading at home.
That hit me different.

Because the truth is, children don’t just need resources.

They need rhythm.

They need presence.

They need correction without rejection.

They need discipline without humiliation.

They need love that does not disappear when they make mistakes.

They need a man they can study and say:

“That’s how I move when life gets heavy.”

“That’s how I treat people.”

“That’s how I recover.”

“That’s how I lead.”

That is why fatherhood matters.

Because when fathers are absent, inconsistent, emotionally unavailable, or disconnected, the streets don’t wait.

Social media doesn’t wait.

Peer pressure doesn’t wait.

The wrong mentor doesn’t wait.

The criminal justice system doesn’t wait.

Somebody is always teaching our children.

The question is…
Who gets there first?

This is why I do the work I do.

Prevention.

Intervention.

Anger management.

Substance abuse education.

Court-mandated programs.

Youth development.

Family restoration.

Because by the time some people walk into a courtroom, treatment program, school discipline meeting, or probation office…

A father wound, a leadership gap, or a missing foundation has already been speaking for years.

And we can’t keep acting surprised by outcomes we refused to address early.
Strong fathers help build strong families.

Strong families help build strong communities.

Strong communities reduce crime, addiction, violence, and hopelessness.

So yeah…

Fatherhood is not soft.

Fatherhood is strategy.

Fatherhood is prevention.

Fatherhood is legacy.

And some of the most powerful community work a man will ever do starts with the children who carry his last name.

If your organization, school, agency, or program is serious about strengthening families, reaching justice-involved clients, or creating real prevention and intervention strategies…

Let’s connect.

Because the next generation does not just need more programs.
They need more present fathers, stronger families, and leaders who understand what is really at stake.

This was one of the most SHOCKING moments of my career.

One day during a substance use group, something happened that created a major paradigm shift for me.

There was a woman in our group who was absolutely beautiful. From the outside looking in, she appeared to have it all together. She looked wealthy, polished, confident, and put together. Everyone in the group admired her.

But after several weeks, she stood up in the middle of the group and told her truth.

She revealed that she was struggling with s*x addiction and was HIV positive. She shared that she had been secretly escorting on the side without her fiancé knowing.

The room went silent.

Nobody saw it coming.

It shocked everyone because from all appearances, she looked like she had the “perfect” life.

But that moment turned into one of the most emotional, raw, and transformative group sessions I’ve ever experienced in my life.

People cried.
People hugged her.
People opened up.

Her honesty gave others permission to stop hiding too.

And in that moment, I realized something deeper about the work I do.

It confirmed:

• Perception is not reality.
• You never truly know what someone is going through.
• Everyone has demons — some are just better at hiding them.
• Vulnerability can heal people.
• This is the work I’m supposed to do.

Moments like that remind me that this work goes far beyond classes, groups, or evaluations. It’s about helping people feel seen, heard, and human again.

I don’t take this responsibility lightly.

I truly appreciate every client who trusts me enough to share their truth in a safe space.

I’m grateful to God for allowing me to serve in this capacity.

I used to justify my addiction because I was getting amphetamines from my weight loss doctor.

Every 30 to 60 days, I’d go back and re-up. And I wasn’t the only one. I’d sit in those waiting rooms and see people rail thin still getting their phentermine pills prescribed.

And yep, I’ll admit it… I used to get high.

At first it was half a pill.
Then a whole pill.
Then a pill and a half.
Washing it down with Mountain Dew or Red Bull just to keep going.

And the whole time, I justified it because I wasn’t buying drugs off the street.

But addiction doesn’t care where the substance came from.

Eventually my body changed. The pills stopped hitting the same. The dry mouth, anxiety, exhaustion, and everything that comes with stimulant abuse started catching up with me.

Thankfully, I broke that cycle.

But I’m sharing this because there are people walking around right now with secret addictions — addictions they justify because the medication came from a doctor.

As professionals working with substance use disorders, we have to be willing to talk about ALL aspects of addiction, even the uncomfortable ones.

That’s why lived experience matters.

Education matters too.
Training matters too.
But relatability and honesty can help break through barriers with clients in ways textbooks sometimes can’t.

I don’t take this work lightly, and neither should you.

If you want to learn more about building rapport, facilitating groups virtually or in person, and connecting with clients in a real way, tap in.

And until then… be honest with yourself about what’s really going on in your life.

That’s where breakthroughs begin.

Most parents don’t need another lecture about “talking to their teen.”
They need a tool that helps them have the conversation they’ve been avoiding.

Because let’s be real…

A lot of families live in the same house but don’t really know what’s going on inside each other’s mind.

Teenagers are dealing with pressure, social media, self-esteem issues, anger, fear, bullying, family drama, identity, decision-making, and the silent weight of trying to figure out who they are becoming.

Parents are trying to guide them, but many don’t know where to start without sounding judgmental, outdated, or disconnected.

That’s why I created the Social-Emotional Learning Workbook for Parents and Teens.

This isn’t just a workbook.

It’s a conversation starter.

It’s a relationship builder.

It’s a judgment-free bridge between parents and teenagers.

Inside, families work through real topics like values, self-esteem, social media, anger management, decision-making, cultural identity, forgiveness, communication, emotional intelligence, and goal setting. The goal is simple:

help teens feel heard, empowered, and prepared while helping parents understand their child on a deeper level.

We can’t wait until a crisis happens to start having real conversations.
We have to create safe spaces now.

Because a teen who can talk about their emotions, think through consequences, manage anger, build self-worth, and make better decisions is a teen who has a better chance at winning in life.

Parents, schools, counselors, youth programs, and community organizations — this is the kind of resource our families need right now.

Real conversations.

Real connections.

Real growth.

That’s the work.

Most fatherhood programs talk about responsibility… but not enough talk about income.

A man can love his children deeply and still feel like he’s failing because he doesn’t have the money, skills, or career path to provide the way he wants to.

That’s why I created The Father’s Guide to Six-Figure Trades.

This book was built for programs serving fathers, justice-involved individuals, Healthy Start families, and reentry participants who need more than motivation.

They need a real plan.

Inside, we focus on high-paying trade careers that don’t require a four-year degree, including careers that can help men earn $80K to $200K+ a year with the right training, discipline, and opportunity.

Because fatherhood is not just about being present.

It’s about being prepared.

Prepared to provide.
Prepared to lead.
Prepared to rebuild.
Prepared to leave a legacy.

For fatherhood programs, Healthy Start programs, workforce programs, and reentry organizations, this is a powerful resource to help men see a future beyond survival.

A future where they can earn, grow, support their families, and walk with dignity.

If your program serves fathers, returning citizens, young men, or families who need practical career pathways, this book belongs in your curriculum, resource library, or next workshop.

Let’s stop telling men to “do better” without giving them the tools to build better.

The Father’s Guide to Six-Figure Trades is available now for program partnerships, bulk orders, and workforce development initiatives.
