It's not willpower.

You're eating the way you always have. Moving the way you always have. And your body is responding differently.

You did not stop trying. Research that followed women through the menopause transition found that fat gain speeds up and muscle declines starting about two years before the final period. Much of midlife weight gain settles in the midsection.

Now there is new research worth knowing about. A study released this week by The Menopause Society looked at nearly 3,900 midlife women taking semaglutide or tirzepatide. Women who were also using hormone therapy lost more weight on semaglutide, and the difference was sustained. With tirzepatide, the difference did not hold up statistically.

The fine print matters. This was an observational study, so it cannot prove cause, and it still needs to be confirmed. The researchers were also clear: hormone therapy is not a weight loss treatment.

What it does suggest is that midlife weight deserves a menopause-informed plan, not a one-size-fits-all one.

I Don't Know Who Needs to Hear This Today, But Repeat After Me 👇

"I will not wait until I'm in crisis to take my health seriously."

So many women put everyone else first and themselves on the back burner. Then years later, the cortisol, the hormone imbalances, the health problems that quietly built up all show up at once.

Don't wait for the crisis. You are important. You have to put your own mask on before you can take care of everyone else's.

Say it with me. Then tag a woman who needs this today.

I'm not a fan of complicated. When I stalled, I didn't overhaul everything, I went back to basics:

🚶🏾‍♀️ Walked after meals. Even 10 minutes helps blunt the blood sugar spike and improves insulin sensitivity, this is one of the most underrated tools in weight loss.

🏋🏾‍♀️ Lifted weights. Muscle is what keeps your metabolism working for you, not against you.

📅 Stayed consistent. Movement is a daily deposit. The longer I go without it, the harder it is to get back.

⚖️ Stopped weighing daily. Psychologically discouraging, and your weight fluctuates for a hundred normal reasons day to day. Don't get lost in the weeds, watch the trend, not the day.

🥩 Prioritized protein.

😴 Protected my sleep.

🧘🏾‍♀️ Managed my stress. This one is underrated and directly tied to hormones and where your body holds weight.

None of this is glamorous. All of it works.

If you're stuck at a plateau, tell me which one you're missing.

Common Does Not Mean Normal.

One in three women experiences urinary leakage. Most of them have never mentioned it to a doctor. Most of them have quietly adjusted their lives around it — skipping the trampoline with their kids, avoiding the jump rope at the gym, laughing carefully, sneezing braced.

That is not management. That is accommodation. And you deserve more than that.

Leaking is common because pelvic floor changes are common — because pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal decline, and aging all affect the muscles and tissue that control bladder function.

Common because the system is under stress. Not common because it is inevitable or permanent.

Your pelvic floor is not a lost cause. It is a treatable structure.

At Essentia we address urinary leakage with EmpowerRF — a non-surgical platform that uses radiofrequency energy to strengthen pelvic floor muscles, restore tissue integrity, and meaningfully reduce or eliminate leakage without surgery, without downtime, and without a single pad.

We also address the hormonal component — because vaginal estrogen plays a direct role in pelvic floor and bladder health and is one of the most underused and underappreciated tools available to women experiencing leakage in midlife.

You should not have to plan your life around your bladder.

Pelvic health is women's health. And it is a conversation we take seriously at Essentia.

Last week was everything. 🎬✨

Over 100 women walked into Trilith Cinemas and something shifted in that room. They came for a documentary. They stayed for the conversation. And they left knowing they are not alone in this season of life.

To every woman who showed up that night — thank you for choosing yourself. For refusing to let this phase of life pass without answers. For sitting in a room full of women who get it.

She is not done. She is just beginning. 🤍

Tag someone who needs to see this conversation. And if you missed it — the documentary is available on PBS. Link in bio.
