No one teaches teen girls how much pressure they’re carrying while trying to “have it all together.” 💭

From stress and anxiety to friendship drama, identity, body image, social media, and the pressure to fit in, mental health matters just as much as physical health.

In this episode of HERstory, Dr. Kels opens up an important conversation every teen girl deserves to hear:
✨ Your emotions are valid.
✨ Asking for help is strength.
✨ You don’t have to figure everything out alone.

Because confident girls become empowered women when they’re given the tools, support, and space to be heard. 💖

What’s one thing you wish someone taught you about mental health growing up?

Scrolling shouldn’t cost our teens their peace of mind.

In this episode of HERstory, I explore how social media is shaping teen mental health—from comparison culture and dopamine-driven habits to anxiety, self-esteem, and emotional overwhelm.

The good news? Awareness creates change.

Small shifts like setting boundaries, taking intentional breaks, curating feeds, and encouraging real-life connections can make a powerful difference.

How do you think social media has impacted mental health in today’s generation?

Teen mood swings are normal… but sometimes it’s more than “just a phase.” 💭💔

This week on HERstory with Dr. Kela, we’re talking about how to recognize the difference between everyday teenage emotions and signs of anxiety or depression — with compassionate guidance for teens, parents, caregivers, and mentors.

✨ What changes are normal?
✨ What signs should you pay closer attention to?
✨ When is it time to seek support?

Because mental health conversations matter — and early support can make all the difference. 💜

This is what health equity means to me.

And to our young people: keep asking questions. Speak up. Advocate for yourselves until you feel heard. Your voice is powerful, and it matters.

We all deserve the opportunity to live healthy, full lives—no exceptions.

April is Minority Health Awareness Month, and I want to take a moment to reflect on what that really means in our communities.

Through my work with the Gwinnett Coalition, I see every day how important it is that healthcare is accessible, consistent, and culturally competent—not just in theory, but in practice.

I also want to speak directly to our young people: your voice matters. Ask questions. Keep asking until you feel heard, understood, and respected. You deserve that.

Because at the end of the day, where you live, work, play, or learn should never determine how well—or how long—you live.

We all have a role to play in making that a reality.

Part 2 🎥 | Inclusion isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity.

In Part 2 of HER Story, Dr. Kela continues the conversation with Kristina Treadwell on what true inclusion really looks like for neurodivergent individuals and their families.

With 1 in 31 children in the U.S. on the autism spectrum, the need for accessible, sensory-friendly spaces is real. That’s why the partnership between Sensory Safe, Inc. and Chuck E. Cheese is such a powerful step forward.

Through Sensory Sensitive Birthdays, families can celebrate in a way that actually works for them — with comfort, flexibility, and inclusion at the center. 💛

👉 Watch Part 2 to hear how small changes can make a big impact.

Books don’t just tell stories—they help shape who we become. 📖✨

This World Book Day, we’re celebrating the power of reading to guide, heal, and empower every stage of life.

One resource I’m especially proud of is Nia and the Numbers Game: A Teenager’s Guide to Education, Relationships, and S*x (link in bio) — written for young women and the parents who want to support them beyond academics.

If you’re raising a daughter and want her to build a strong foundation emotionally, mentally, and physically—this book is for you. And if you’re a teen navigating friendships, relationships, college prep, and those important “real life” conversations… this is your guide.

Because education isn’t just about grades—it’s about growing into a confident, healthy, and informed young woman. 💫

What’s one book that’s shaped your journey? 💭

What does it really mean to create a space where everyone feels safe?

In this week’s HER Story with Dr. Kela (Part 1), we’re joined by Kristina Treadwell from SensorySafe to explore the power of sensory safe spaces — and why they matter more than ever.

From overwhelming environments to unseen challenges, many neurodiverse individuals experience the world differently. This conversation sheds light on how thoughtful, inclusive design and awareness can make everyday spaces more accessible, welcoming, and supportive.

If you’re a business owner, service provider, or simply someone who cares about creating inclusive environments, this is a must-watch.

Because inclusion isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a responsibility.

Tune in now and stay with us for Part 2 next week, where we go even deeper. 💛
