For , we’re breaking down 5 little-known forms of OCD that go far beyond the stereotypes.
Today’s focus: Emotional Contamination OCD.
Unlike physical contamination (germs or dirt), emotional contamination is the intense fear of absorbing someone else’s "bad vibes," negative energy, bad luck, or personality traits.
The compulsions often happen quietly:
• Avoiding specific people, chairs, or places
• Discarding belongings that feel "tainted"
• Performing mental rituals to neutralize the feeling
The shift: An uncomfortable feeling is not a contaminant. In Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), recovery means allowing that discomfort to fade naturally without doing a mental ritual to fix it.
