Almost half of heart attack patients had “optimal” LDL. Are we focusing too much on this one marker when it comes to heart disease risk? Do we need to consider HDL and triglycerides, too? Insulin resistance is another risk factor most people never think to check.

Alzheimer’s has been called “type 3 diabetes,” and the research behind it is hard to ignore. Insulin resistance may be one of the key links between metabolic health and brain health, which means looking after one may help protect the other.

Only 1 in 8 adults have all five markers of metabolic health in the optimal range, which means 88% have at least one of the five metabolic syndrome markers outside the healthy range. Even among people at a normal weight, fewer than 1 in 3 made the cut. And more than 40% of American adults now have metabolic syndrome, the cluster driven by insulin resistance. You can’t see metabolic health. You have to measure it.

The most important biomarker may be the relationship between biomarkers.

We’re used to looking at bloodwork one line at a time.
Triglycerides: normal or high?
HDL: normal or low?
Glucose: in range?
ALT: elevated?
Each of those numbers can tell you something.

But your body doesn’t operate one biomarker at a time, and some of the most useful insights can emerge when you begin looking at how those numbers relate to one another.

The relationship between triglycerides and HDL can add context to your metabolic health. Glucose becomes more informative when considered alongside insulin and other markers of glucose regulation. Liver enzymes such as ALT can take on additional meaning when viewed alongside triglycerides, glucose, insulin and the broader metabolic picture.

One number gives you a data point. A pattern gives you context.

That distinction matters because metabolic changes can develop gradually. Individual biomarkers may not always look alarming in isolation, while the relationships and trends across your bloodwork can provide a more complete picture of where your health may be heading.

At Opti, that’s why we don’t believe your lab report should simply be a collection of individual numbers. We believe it should help you understand the connections between them.

And if you’re not sure where to start, we offer three Snapshot paths depending on the information you already have and how deeply you want to look:
Metabolic Discovery — Start with bloodwork you’ve already completed within the past 12 months.
Metabolic Essentials — Get a focused set of labs designed to establish a broader metabolic picture.
Metabolic Comprehensive — Take the deepest look with our most extensive set of biomarkers.
Don’t wait for one number to become alarming before you start paying attention to the bigger picture.

October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month. This month, we want to recognize the people whose lives have been touched by liver cancer in ways that statistics alone can never capture.

To those currently living with liver cancer.
To those navigating a new diagnosis, appointments, treatment decisions and uncertainty.
To those undergoing regular screening or surveillance because you know you are at higher risk.
And to the spouses, partners, parents, children, friends, caregivers and healthcare professionals who have stepped in to support someone through it.

We see you, and we support you.

Awareness months give us an opportunity to talk about prevention, risk and early detection. But they are also an important reminder that behind every diagnosis is a person, and often an entire circle of people whose lives change alongside them.

This October, we stand with everyone affected by liver cancer and with those working every day to improve prevention, detection, treatment and care.

Health literacy means being able to find, understand and use health information to make informed decisions about your health. That sounds simple. In practice, it can be anything but.

Lab reports are filled with numbers and reference ranges. Medical terminology can feel like another language. Appointments move quickly. And sometimes the only context you receive is that something is “normal,” “high” or “low.”

But this is your health information. You should have the opportunity to understand it.

At Opti Metabolics, that's a fundamental part of what we're trying to provide. We take another look at your existing labs and health information through a metabolic lens, helping you understand individual markers, recognize connections between them and begin seeing the bigger picture of your health.

From there, the goal isn't for you to simply agree with everything you're told because you don't know what else to ask. It's for you to become a more informed participant in your own care.

You can walk into your next appointment knowing which questions you want to ask. You can work with your Opti Success Team and Health Coach understanding why you're focusing on certain areas. And you can continue learning through education, assessments, personalized resources and AI access to your own health information.

Because taking greater ownership of your health starts with understanding it. This Health Literacy Month, start with information you may already have. Upload your recent labs to our complimentary Metabolic Discovery Snapshot and discover what your health data has to tell you.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

It's a month dedicated to increasing awareness, encouraging education and screening, supporting continued research, and recognizing the millions of people whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. But behind every ribbon is a person.

Someone hearing a diagnosis they never expected.
Someone going through treatment.
Someone celebrating another year in remission.
Someone sitting beside a spouse, parent, sibling, daughter or friend through appointments, treatments and difficult days.
And someone remembering a person they wish were still here.

This month, we stand with all of you. We recognize those currently fighting breast cancer, those in remission, the families and friends supporting them, the healthcare professionals caring for them, and those honoring the memory of someone they have lost.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives the world an important reason to recognize this community every October. But the people behind it deserve our recognition, compassion and support every month of the year.

Your health has a timeline.

For many adults, it can look something like this: Daily habits → Metabolic changes → Biomarker changes → Symptoms → Diagnosis

The problem is that our healthcare system often becomes most active toward the end of that timeline. By then, the habits and metabolic changes influencing your health may have been developing for years. Your biomarkers may have been gradually shifting. Your body may have been compensating long before you felt different enough (or crossed a threshold significant enough) for someone to give the problem a name.

But that timeline is not something you have to simply submit to. It can be interrupted. That idea is a big part of why Opti Metabolics was created.

What if we paid attention earlier? What if you understood how your habits were affecting your metabolism before symptoms appeared? What if you looked at changes across your bloodwork over time instead of waiting for one number to become “abnormal”? What if those insights gave you an opportunity to change your habits, ask better questions and start influencing the direction your health was moving?

The goal isn't to wait for the end of the timeline and manage what happens next. It's to recognize where you are on it while there's still time to help change where it leads.

1 in 3 of us are killed by heart disease. That is one reason why World Heart Day deserves our attention.

At Opti Metabolics, heart health is not something we view as separate from the rest of your metabolic health. Your heart does not exist in isolation from your glucose regulation. Your blood pressure does not exist in isolation from insulin resistance. Your cholesterol does not exist in isolation from your triglycerides, inflammation, body composition, liver health or lifestyle. It is all connected.

That is why the biomarkers we evaluate aren't simply checked against a reference range one at a time. We look at how they relate to one another and what those relationships may reveal about the direction your metabolic health is moving.

Are there early signs of insulin resistance?
What does the relationship between triglycerides and HDL tell us?
What does your glucose look like alongside insulin?
Are inflammation, blood pressure or other cardiovascular markers adding another piece to the picture?

The goal is to recognize patterns before the downstream consequences become the first sign that something is wrong.

World Heart Day is an opportunity to pay attention to your heart, but also to recognize that understanding your heart means understanding the system surrounding it.

Don't wait for a heart disease diagnosis to become curious about where you stand. If you've had bloodwork completed within the past 12 months, start your complimentary Metabolic Discovery Snapshot and let Opti help you see the bigger picture: https://optimetabolics.com/snapshot/

Your organs aren’t independent departments.

We tend to talk about health as if they are. Heart health. Brain health. Liver health. Muscle health. Blood sugar. Body fat. Separate specialties. Separate tests. Separate conversations. But your body doesn’t operate that way.

Your pancreas influences how you regulate glucose and insulin. Your liver plays a major role in how you process and store energy. Your muscle is constantly using and responding to that energy. Your adipose tissue is metabolically active. Your blood vessels are exposed to the environment those systems collectively create. And your heart operates in the middle of all of it.

That’s why looking at one cholesterol value, one glucose result or one blood pressure reading can only tell you so much.

At Opti, we’re interested in the connections. How does glucose look alongside insulin? What do triglycerides and HDL tell us together? Are inflammation, liver health, body composition and cardiovascular markers adding additional pieces to the same metabolic story?

Your biomarkers aren’t independent departments either.

If you’ve had bloodwork completed within the past 12 months, start with our complimentary Metabolic Discovery Snapshot. We’ll take a more connected look at your existing health information to help you understand how the systems and the signals may be interacting over time.
