Somewhere along the A1A in Florida we stopped for a picnic. It was 1956, before the fast food drive-throughs popular today. Mom had packed a picnic basket borrowed from my grandmother with foods we would eat along the road from North Carolina to Hileigha, Florida.
We stopped at a picnic area with several wooden tables strategically placed near a parking area. My mother and aunt pulled the green woven basket from the trunk while my dad lifted the red Coca-Cola cooler across the grass and sat it onto the chosen table. Within a few minutes, the table was filled with sandwich fixings and snacks pulled from those two containers.
Nearby were these huge concrete culverts, and I was of the age where exploring was always fun. My mother was the photographer and snapped me with my Chatty Cathy wandering inside these pipes. I was dressed in my fashion choice, over-alls with one of my handmade shirts. During those years, I proudly wore outfits that my mom sewed.
That was a wonderful trip.

Sad news. Informed that Don Kimsey, Shelby Russ Kimsey's husband passed away on January 24, 2026. Keep Shelby and her family in prayers through this difficult time.
