When your cancer treatment has already included chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and immunotherapy, the last thing on your mind is adding another appointment. But, if you're like Amanda Kramer, and you've noticed a decline in physical strength and brain function, you have to seek help from somewhere. She turned to ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation.

When Amanda was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, chemotherapy forced her to take a step back from everything. Prior to her diagnosis, Amanda juggled a hectic job while also competing in swimming meets and horse shows. Post-chemotherapy, she could barely swim a lap or ride her horse.

"At my lowest point, my muscles felt like noodles and I had almost no stamina," Amanda said. "My joints and bones ached as though I were more than 90 years old. Unloading a dishwasher could be overwhelming."

But with ReVital, Amanda was able to find recovery through small wins: regaining mobility, tolerating more activity and doing tasks that once felt impossible.

"My physical therapist has been a critical part of my recovery," Amanda said. "I needed more than generic encouragement; I needed an expert who understood how to rebuild safely after cancer treatment and surgery."

Our ReVital team, which included Physical Therapist Sarah Kowalczk and Speech-Language Pathologist Kayla Mathiowetz, helped Amanda set realistic, meaningful goals that would help her find the strength, mobility and balance to do things like run a race or ride her horse safely again.

"A major milestone was completing a five-mile women's race in Alaska, at a steady 20-minute-mile pace, and finishing strong," she shared.

There was a time when a trip to the grocery store felt impossible; running five miles shows how far Amanda has come.

"My recovery is still in progress, and I am grateful to have an expert physical therapist helping me continue forward."

We’ve got something new to share! We’re launching a dedicated NovaCare Prosthetics & Orthotics page, focused on the specialized care, resources and support our prosthetic and orthotic patients need. If you’re part of this community or just curious about the amazing things happening in prosthetics and orthotics, from inspiring stories and creative projects to tips and discoveries you might not have heard before, make sure to follow the page.

Welcome to the official NovaCare Prosthetics & Orthotics page.

You may be familiar with NovaCare Rehabilitation and its current page, where for decades we’ve been helping patients with their physical, occupational and speech therapy, as well as providing prosthetic and orthotic services. We created this dedicated space with a specific purpose: to better support the unique journeys of our prosthetic and orthotic patients, their families and caregivers and the communities we serve.

Prosthetic and orthotic care is deeply personal, highly specialized and often lifelong. Here, we’ll share resources, education, patient stories and insights, all tailored specifically to this community.

Denise Thompson was caught off guard — not just by the cancer diagnosis, but by what came next. She didn’t have a road map after her double mastectomy for breast cancer. Like so many patients, she was happy the surgery was a success, but that wasn’t the end of the story.

Denise experienced tightness in her chest and under her arms as well as a lot of pain. Not right away, but several weeks after the surgery, when she thought things were going well.

She wasn’t sure what would help. She asked her care team for physical therapy or scar massage. They recommended us.

Denise worked with ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation-Certified Physical Therapist Colleen Volpe. During nine visits, Colleen used myofascial release and manual therapy to reduce pain, ease restrictions and restore Denise’s range of motion.

“I highly recommend it for anybody,” Denise said. “My chest pain has stopped for the most part. My mobility’s a lot better. And just the education of knowing what’s going on has made a huge difference. I think that it’s something all patient’s should have.”

After a visit to her OB/GYN, she turned to CoreVia Pelvic Health Physical Therapist Anne Clark to try pelvic floor therapy. In a few weeks, Chloe has felt the best she has in months.

“I feel validated and understood,” Chloe said.

When stiffness, aching, grinding, clicking or pain make it hard to move your neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees or ankles — you should take action.

It could be osteoarthritis. There is no cure, and it starts earlier than most people realize. But there are three main actions to take early that can help, including physical and occupational therapy.
