As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. At the Horses and Humans Research Foundation, we are proud to support research that helps veterans heal and thrive. HHRF has funded four research studies focused on veterans and equine-assisted services, helping expand the understanding of how horses can support emotional well-being, connection, resilience, and recovery.

Burn out is REAL and taking steps to prevent and notice signs is a very important responsibility in working with clients. You might have the best knowledge of an intervention a client needs to make progress but if you’re showing up to sessions with an empty battery this can put you and the client at risk. Schedule vacations, plan short calming activities in your busy daily routine and engage in supportive professional relationships. If you haven’t got a great supervisor in your support system yet, get you one 🙂

“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man” Winston Churchill.

I have had the pleasure of working alongside many wonderful co-workers in my career. Peer support, LPCCs, psychologist, APRNs, other drug and alcohol counselors and other social workers. Through each professional relationship I have learned, laughed and even cried (working during COVID was tough). I would have never thought I would be exploring a path in my career that would bring me an equestrian co-worker. Just like my supervises I am learning and growing with these 4 legged majestic creatures to gain my PATH credential. I hope to be able to incorporate equine assisted learning into my supervision within the next year for anyone who is interested. Stay tuned for updates!
