Midlife Muscle Society I’m 51 and just getting started. Lifting heavier than ever. Learning something new every day.

Cheering on women who want to feel strong, energized, and confident through midlife. Also fueled by protein, barre classes, and chasing my grandkids around.

Apparently my “light” weights are 15s now.

Today was GLUTE DAY and we were working asymmetrically, which means one side at a time, lots of control, and my core definitely did not get the day off.

4 rounds.
10 reps.
3 working sets.

And the weights just kept climbing…

15s ➡️ 20s ➡️ 25s ➡️ 30s 💪

I love seeing that progression because I remember when some of those heavier weights felt completely out of reach.

And at 51, THAT is what I’m chasing.

Yes, I want strong, toned legs and glutes. But I also want strong hips, better balance, stability, muscle and a body that can keep doing all the things I love for a very long time.

And because apparently lifting 30s wasn’t enough…we finished with the Band of Fire AND ankle weights.

Heavy weights first.
Tiny little burnout moves last.
And somehow those tiny moves always have the BIGGEST attitude.

Menopause may change how our bodies respond, but it definitely doesn’t mean we stop challenging them.

Lift the weights.
Eat the protein.
Build the muscle.
Keep getting stronger.

My 50s are becoming my strongest decade yet…and I’m just getting started.

If you’re in your 40s, 50s, or beyond and still think strength training is “optional”… let me gently challenge that today.

Because this morning looked like this for me:

Heavy quads.
Heavy biceps.
Heavy chest.
Heavy shoulders.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, I realized something I never take for granted anymore:

I am stronger now than I’ve ever been.

Menopause doesn’t mean slowing down.

It means getting intentional.

For me, that looks like:

✔ Lifting heavy (even when it feels intimidating)
✔ Prioritizing protein every single day
✔ Recovering like it matters (because it does)
✔ Staying consistent even when motivation dips

Because here’s the truth most women were never told: Muscle is not just about aesthetics in midlife — it’s about longevity, metabolism, bone health, and how strong you feel in your own body.

And I don’t know about you… but I want to feel powerful in mine.

So if you’re reading this and wondering if it’s “too late” to start lifting heavier, progressing your weights, or building muscle in your 50s…

It’s not.

You’re right on time.

And you’re stronger than you think.

If you’ve ever said “I should start working out again…”
this is your sign to stop restarting and start building.

We’re not here for perfect.
We’re here for strong, steady, and a little bit stubborn.

In your 50s, fitness hits different.

It’s not about punishment.
It’s not about shrinking.
It’s about staying powerful in a body that’s changing whether we like it or not.

Menopause doesn’t get to take everything.
Not our muscle.
Not our bone strength.
Not our confidence.
Not our ability to feel GOOD in our bodies.

So we lift.

Some days it feels amazing.
Some days it feels like “why is this so heavy today?!”
Both count.

Because consistency beats motivation every single time.

This is about real life strength:

🛒 Carrying all the groceries in one trip
👶 Getting up off the floor without negotiating with your knees
💪 Feeling solid when you pick up something heavy
🔥 And yes… still wanting abs, to feel strong, toned, and capable in your 50s
✨ And being able to brace your core and feel STRONG from the inside out

Not for perfection.
For LIFE.

For the version of you who still has things to do, places to go, and people to carry (sometimes literally).

And here’s the truth I keep coming back to:

You’re not trying to get your old body back.
You’re building a stronger one for the life you’re still living.

So we keep it simple:

We show up.
We lift heavy.
We laugh when it gets hard. 😅
We do it again. 🔁

No extremes.
No perfection.
Just women getting stronger in midlife—together. 💪🔥

Welcome to the club.
You’re exactly where you need to be.

Glute day and I am ALL IN.

I never imagined I’d be lifting this heavy, but here we are. Today’s weights were 45s, 30s, and 15s, and every week I’m surprising myself with what my body can do.

One thing I’ve learned at 51? Lifting heavy doesn’t make you bulky—it makes you stronger. It helps build muscle, supports your bones, boosts your metabolism, and gives you confidence that carries into every part of life.

I also love that this program was designed with women in mind. It’s challenging, empowering, and reminds me that getting older doesn’t mean slowing down.

If you’re in your 50s and wondering where to start, my biggest piece of advice is simple: find a program you love. When you enjoy the process, showing up gets so much easier.

I’m 51… and I truly feel like I’m just getting started.

Been a little quiet on here lately… but still putting in the work. 💪

This is the last week of Month 3 and one thing I’m really focusing on right now is building muscle, getting stronger, and fueling my body the right way.

Today was upper body day and I can definitely feel the progress. The weights that used to feel heavy don’t anymore. The endurance is improving. The strength is improving. And honestly… that matters so much in our fifties.

Especially with menopause and everything that comes with it.

What I’m learning is it’s not just about workouts.
It’s the combination of:
• strength training
• enough protein
• carbs for energy and recovery
• sleep
• stress management
• rest days
• consistency over time

All of those pieces work together.

There’s no magic shortcut.
No quick fix.
Just showing up over and over again even on the days you don’t feel like it.

And little by little… you start feeling stronger, more energized, more capable, and more confident in your body again.

That’s the goal for me now.
Not chasing perfection.
Just becoming a stronger version of myself in my fifties. ✨

Upper body day today 💪

8 moves.10 reps. 12 reps. 15 reps.And a 20-second cardio burst in between every single move.

Definitely one of those workouts where your arms start questioning your life choices halfway through.

But this is exactly why I keep showing up in my fifties.

Because strength training is helping me fight back against so many of the things menopause tries to throw at us…loss of muscle, lower energy, slower metabolism, higher cortisol, feeling softer and weaker.

And here’s the thing a lot of people don’t want to hear…

The workouts alone aren’t enough.

Nutrition matters just as much.

Protein matters.Carbs matter.Macros matter.Fueling your body properly matters.

I think so many women are under-eating, avoiding carbs, skipping meals, and then wondering why they feel exhausted, weak, and stuck. That was me!

Your body needs fuel to build muscle and recover.

For me, there are no shortcuts. No magic pills. No fat burners. No “secret” supplements.

Just consistency.
Hard workouts.
Progressive overload.
Real food.
Balanced meals.
And showing up even on the days I don’t feel like it.

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about building habits that actually support your body in this stage of life.

And honestly? Feeling strong in my fifties feels pretty empowering.

Triple A day 💪🔥Arms. Abs. And a$$.

Lots of plank work today and focusing on eccentric movement again this week because time under tension matters. Slowing things down, controlling the movement, and really working the muscle hits differently.

And yes… I absolutely want to look good too 😄Best of both worlds.

I want the muscle tone.I want the strength.I want to feel confident. And in our fifties, that takes consistency and intention.

Menopause can make building and keeping muscle harder, which is exactly why I refuse to stop prioritizing it. Strength training, barre, Pilates, low impact movement, recovery… all of it adds up over time.

This season of life isn’t about giving up.It’s about adapting, staying strong, and proving we can still feel amazing in our fifties and beyond.
