Communication is not limited to spoken words.

Gestures, body movement, AAC, typing, writing, facial expressions and actions can all carry meaning.

Inclusive support begins when we speak directly to the person, allow processing time, provide accessible options and respect communication that says “no,” “stop” or “not yet.”

Non-speaking does not mean non-thinking.

Why start with movement?

For some autistic individuals, movement can support regulation, attention and readiness to engage. When combined with interactive feedback, it can also make the experience more motivating.

At Sirica Center, we begin with regulation—then build toward participation.

Building Sirica Center takes more than technology. It takes people willing to explore, question, test and imagine better possibilities together.

Every conversation and shared perspective helps shape a more engaging and supportive experience for autistic individuals and their families.

We’re grateful to everyone contributing their time, knowledge and curiosity to this journey.

Before increasing prompts, pause and consider:

Is the person regulated? Is the environment manageable? Have they had enough processing time? Can they communicate “stop,” “help” or “different”? Is the activity meaningful to them?

Sometimes, less prompting creates more room for genuine participation.

Observe. Adjust. Support. Then allow engagement to unfold at an individual pace.

Sensory overload isn’t always loud or immediately visible.

Sometimes it may look like withdrawal, reduced communication, a flat expression, leaving the environment or increased repetitive movement.

Instead of asking, “How do we stop this behavior?” we can begin with: “What might their nervous system need right now?”

Less input, fewer words, more time and clear choices can help create space for regulation.

Sirica Center began with one family’s search for more meaningful possibilities.

As the father of a non-speaking autistic daughter, Dr. Uli Chettipally saw how much can remain unseen when communication, movement and regulation needs are not fully understood.

That journey inspired a space where technology supports exploration, movement becomes engaging, and participation comes before performance.

Sirica Center is not about changing who someone is. It is about creating more ways to participate, communicate and discover their abilities.

Participation can begin in many ways.

Watching, approaching, trying briefly, taking a break and saying “not yet” can all be meaningful forms of participation.

At Sirica Center, we create space for autistic individuals to explore movement and interactive experiences at their own pace.

Participation doesn’t always begin with completing an activity.

It may begin with watching, exploring, trying briefly, requesting a change, taking a break, or communicating “not yet.”

These moments still matter. At Sirica Center, participation comes before performance.
