We had a great time at this year's Guardians game! Though we had a rain delay in the 6th inning, we showed up and rooted our Guards onto victory! We'd like to extend a special thanks to the Cleveland Guardians staff for taking such great care of us. We'd also like to thank our employees for making the day so memorable.

Last week, our Retina Fellow Alexander G. Miller, MD, presented at the podium of the 2026 American Society of Retina Specialists Annual Meeting in Montreal.

Dr. Miller’s podium presentation highlighted real-world outcomes of pegcetacoplan therapy in patients with geographic atrophy. He also contributed to a roundtable discussion focused on the evolving management of geographic atrophy and the application of emerging therapies in clinical practice.

Congratulations to Dr. Miller on representing our practice and contributing to this important conversation within the retina community.

Today we feature our Beachwood Ophthalmic Tech Abby Green. Abby is a 2024 graduate of Miami University, where she majored in Biology with Premedical Science. This fall, she is headed to The Ohio State University for medical school.

Before coming to RACI, Abby had done four years of retina research: three at Miami University, and a gap year at University of Washington in Seattle. She used that time to decide if she wanted to do a MD-PHD program, which is combining the clinical side of medicine with the research side. Abby decided to do clinical full-time instead of research.

After doing research at University of Washington, she took an additional gap year to work and apply to medical schools. She saw the Ophthalmic Tech position at RACI on Indeed, applied, and started working in June of 2025.

“I love working here,” said Abby. “My experience has helped solidify my choice to go into medicine and pursue my dream of becoming a physician.”

Abby said that working with patients directly everyday has built her confidence. She has learned how to interact with patients, talk them through injections, and deliver good and bad news.

“I’ve not only built relationships with patients, but with my coworkers and physicians,” said Abby. “The physicians truly enjoy mentoring students. After this invaluable experience, I definitely want to go into retina.”

Abby, it was a true pleasure mentoring and working with you. I'm glad our program helped direct you towards your future. We wish you the absolute best at Ohio State!

Today we feature our Akron Ophthalmic Tech Nathan Anton. Nathan is a 2025 graduate of Cleveland State University. There he majored in Health Sciences, with minors in Biology and Psychology. This fall, he is headed to Ohio University for medical school.

Nathan started working for us in May of 2025. He decided to take a gap year between college and medical school to work and apply to schools. Nathan’s sister Ramage also worked for RACI before attending medical school.

“When I graduated, my sister suggested that I work at RACI until I apply to med school and get in,” said Nathan. “I’m glad I did because it gave me an opportunity to explore a specialty I may not have considered.”

Nathan works at our Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, and Medina offices. He first started out working up patients, and then quickly advanced to following the doctors. Nathan gathers as much information as possible to prepare the doctor before the patient is examined.

“Doctors Tsai and Hull showed me how to be a doctor,” explained Nathan, “in terms of bedside manner and balancing other factors like heart and lung conditions, diabetes, etc. It was very helpful learning how to professionally handle those additional challenges.”

A year ago, Nathan would have said he was going into anesthesiology or sports medicine. Now, ophthalmology is more of an option. What swayed him were the patient interactions.

“The patient interactions were special,” said Nathan. “We have patients who are grateful when they see their vision improve. We also have patients who are about to lose their vision. I’m there along with the doctors to give them the tools they need to improve their quality of life. Our efforts really mean a lot to them.”

Nathan, we truly enjoyed having you at our practice. You worked so hard to get to where you are today. We wish you the very best at Ohio University!

Today we feature our Beachwood Ophthalmic Tech Elizabeth Russo. She recently graduated from John Carroll University, majoring in Biology. She is headed to Ashland University in the fall for Physician Assistant school.

Elizabeth is a seasonal employee who started working with us the summer after her freshman year. She has continued at RACI every summer after that, and has even picked up extra shifts during the school year. Elizabeth has also worked out of our other locations, which include Akron, Medina, Middleburg Heights, and our former Strongsville location.

“During my time at RACI, I learned so much about ophthalmology and healthcare in general,” said Elizabeth, “from how clinics operate to assisting with preparing patients for their eye injections. I am very grateful for my experience at RACI, my wonderful coworkers, and the knowledge and opportunities it provided me as I pursue a career in healthcare.”

The feeling is mutual Elizabeth, we are grateful for you! It was a true pleasure working with you and watching you grow. You are totally ready for the next chapter. May you continue to succeed and shine brightly.

The Cleveland Corporate Challenge continues! During the first two weeks of June, our employees participated in Minigolf at Sweeties Golfland in Brookpark, Bullseye Simulator Golf at Five Iron Golf in Downtown Cleveland, and Softball at James Day Park in Parma. We are so proud of our staff getting out there and representing the sportsmanship and spirit of RACI!

Congratulations to our Surgery Scheduler Jacquel Williams, who celebrates 10 years of service with us on Tuesday, June 16.

Jacquel started working for RACI in June of 2016 as a receptionist. She worked in our Middleburg Heights, Lakewood (at the time), Lorain, and Westlake offices. Jacquel answered calls, scheduled patients for appointments, and did authorizations for injections. In 2020, she transitioned into surgery scheduling.

Jacquel works alongside her coworker Michelle Weaver, who is also a Surgery Scheduler. Both are responsible for scheduling surgeries and performing the authorizations for all 17 of our doctors at all five of our surgery centers. They keep busy communicating with our patients and surgery centers.

“I like helping people,” explained Jacquel. “I like being able to help someone make their day. I like to communicate with people as well.”

Over the past decade, Jacquel has experienced many changes at RACI, including opening new locations, and working with new employees and new systems.

“I have gained valuable experience and met incredible people along the way,” said Jacquel. “I am thankful for the opportunities, challenges, and friendships that have shaped my career.”

Jacquel likes to spend her free time with her family. She has a 15-year-old son and a 14-year-old nephew who keep her busy with football and basketball games. She also enjoys working out and taking walks with her boyfriend. Jacquel enjoys cooking vegetarian dishes. She is also very involved with her church where her sister is a pastor. She frequently does community service for her parish.

“Here’s to 10 years of dedication, growth, and making a difference!” exclaimed Jacquel.
