Dream big, stay true to yourself, and never be afraid to take a different route. Some of life's greatest opportunities begin when we're brave enough to create our own way forward. ✨

Barbara Carolan, 71, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2023. Like many people living with the condition, she was warned that falls could become more common. Seeking a way to stay active and build her confidence, she joined Land on Your Feet, a judo-based falls prevention program at Harlow Judo Club in Essex. Through the class, Barbara learned how to move safely, improve her coordination, and fall in ways that reduce the risk of injury. What began as a cautious step outside her comfort zone became life-changing, helping her feel stronger, more independent, and less defined by her diagnosis. Her training even helped her avoid serious injury when she later tripped on a broken wall and instinctively used the techniques she had practiced. Today, Barbara credits the program with helping her stay active, confident, and connected to her community.

Everyone has moments when they forget a name, misplace their keys, or walk into a room and lose their train of thought. As we age, these memory slips can become more common, but not every lapse is a sign of dementia.

Understanding the difference between normal aging and more serious memory changes can help families recognize when it may be time to seek support. Being informed is one of the best ways to advocate for the people you love.

Unfortunately, scammers often target older adults by posing as trusted organizations, family members, or government agencies.

Knowing how scammers operate can help prevent financial loss and protect your peace of mind. Stay cautious, trust your instincts, and always verify before sharing personal information.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to caring for someone you love.

Whether you're considering a private caregiver or a professional caregiving agency, the most important thing is finding the support that meets your loved one's needs and gives your family peace of mind.

Taking the time to explore your options is often the first step toward feeling more confident about the road ahead.

Dolly Parton spent a lifetime sharing her talents, generosity, and joy with the world. She also knew the deeply personal responsibility of caring for someone she loved.

Her experience offers an important reminder: family caregivers need care, too. Support, rest, and attention to their own well-being can help caregivers continue being present for the people who depend on them.

As we honor Dolly’s legacy, we also recognize family caregivers everywhere. The love you give matters, and so does your well-being. ✨

Alice's connection to the railroad runs deep. Following in the footsteps of her father and brother, she built her own career in an industry that wasn't always welcoming to women, eventually working as a Claims Agent for the Milwaukee Road, Soo Line, and Canadian Pacific railroads.

Knowing how much those memories meant to her, Right at Home Twin Cities and South Suburbs caregiver Jennie arranged a special outing to Train Days at Union Depot in St. Paul. As they toured the historic trains, Alice came to life, sharing stories from her years on the railroad and reminiscing about experiences that helped shape her life. What began as a day trip became an opportunity to celebrate her accomplishments, honor her history, and relive memories that continue to hold a special place in her heart.

Jennie is a wonderful reflection of the Right at Home mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Moments like these are a reminder that caregiving is about more than assistance. It's about understanding what matters most to each person and creating opportunities for them to reconnect with the people, places, and experiences that have defined their lives.
