Please share!

Trauma is a unique wound which can have immediate but also long term effects. The recent floods in Nepal are a wound for so many of us, on many different levels...out minds, our hearts and for some their bodies and/or their spirit.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a specific therapeutic tool that can help to renegotiate the effects of trauma, other states of high stress and shock. Its beauty is in its simplicity and its capacity to help us restore some sense of coherence...bit by bit.

SE (Somatic Experiencing)Nepal, a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered with the government of Nepal. There is a small-but-mighty group of Nepali clinical psychologists, psychosocial counselors and therapists trained in this particular modality.

I have had the great pleasure and honor to assist the SE trainings in Nepal and witness the therapists in training....their hearts, embodiment and skill.

Please share this with anyone and everyone who might need support, small or large. There are people ready and able to help you attend to the seen and unseen wounds...some which have words and some which aee beyond them.

For those of you who are impacted by the recent floods in Nepal, whether you are on the ground or not.

Disasters and their aftermath, are a chaotic time. There is a flurry of actvity and information, overwhelming emotions and more uncertainties than our brains know how to handle.

There is no suffering, grief or shock that is less valid than another.

Whether you are in nepal or far, please give yourself the grace of acknowledging what you feel, of using your tools of self regulation if you have them, of gathering In supportive community....Every moment that you can connect with your body, and find the calm within is a gift to yourself and the collective.

And please remember: we heal in amd through healthy connection. Not in isolation. Reach out to others. Welcome support. And offer the same to others when you can.

Some resources for Somatic Experiencing practitioners:

In nepal: I will be posting more in the coming days and weeks once we have resources available. If you are a hospital, first responder, embassy, humanitarian organisation on site, please DM. We will connect you with the SE Nepal team.

The theory I mention is the theory of linguistic relativity, by Whorf.(1956). There are different versions of this theory...but in a nutshell, the premise is that we perceive and categorise the world according to the language we speak.
..Which might explain why people who speak different languages might not actually understand/interpret/perceive a single situation in the same way. πŸ€”

And there's scientific research to back this up (Davies & Davidoff, 2000)

As someone who lives and operates in several language this theory made complete sense to me when I learned about it.

For my other multilingual friends here, i am curious to leanr how language influences how you see things?

Initiations often happen through purging. Cleansing and letting go are steps in transformation. Nepal brought this front and center for me...and so did Yog.

Hatha yoga understands this, which is why it traditionally begins with tge shatkarma or purification techniques (physical and energetic).

As someone who experienced plenty of ill health in my early life, i came to Yoga with a broken relationship with my body. Yogic practice and lifestyle repaired and healed my body and my relationship with it. Through the years I have come to view the physical body class a hildernof wisdom, a translator of the more subtle parts of myself I can often ignore-- the undigested emotiona, thought patterns and intuitions-- that are all asking to be temded to.

Your body holds wisdom and deep Knowing.
Wishing you the most beautiful, loving and compassionate relationship with all of who you are (in this lifetime)

Karma is a funny thing.

There are decisions we make. And others that feel as though, even though we make them, we are somehow pushed/led by something more subtle and more powerful than our logical mind.

In nepali, there is the saying "lekheko thiyo"..literally translated as "it was written ".
It gives a glimpse into the beliefs woven into a culture that is diverse, rich, mutilayeresld and one that seems to touch many people.

Nepal has been my teacher, my Mother, my family, a bestower of treasures and a remover of many veils. Nothing i could have ever imagined when I was 22.

If you are somewhere on your journey just now when you are making what feels to be an important decision....all i would suggest is this: Trust yourself. Believe in yourself...and know that no matter what, you will figure it out and make the most of whatever you will face.
The force IS with you.

Connect with kindness.

There's something very special about having senior teachers with decades of experience, knowledge and wisdom.I enter those sharwd spaces and feel my breathe deepen, my body relax. It's restful-- To listen. To be guided in practice. And to be reminded. Again and again.

About the simplicity of yogic living.

Connect with kindness.
Even if just for a few minutes here and there. Through mantra, through sadhana, through self reflection and through recognizing the positive qualities within you.

Yoga starts when we are in the darkness of suffering.

To think you have to be flexible or be able to sit and focus in order to practice is a misunderstanding.

Just start. Try.
However imperfect you think you are.
Now is always the right time to decondition ourselves.

Adapt
Adjust
Accommodate
This is the Highest yoga, according to my teacher.

Indeed, this is no small feat.
Consciously or unconsciously, we hold resistance to change.
And this, in my understanding and experience, is at the core of yogic and spiritual practice...to not only be aware but to be willing and able to make the effort to transform ourselves for the better and for the highest good of all.

No coincidence its so darn hot...its under the influence of fire (Agni tattwa) that transformation takes place πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Our words contribute to our experience of the path that we are on...especially when used as a title or name.

Yogic sciences understand this well.
Its one reason why we're encouraged to practice "mouna" or noble silence-- not just being quiet but, when necessary, speaking consciously.

Its why we take our time in choosing the wording for a sankalpa, or resolve.

Its why a spiritual name is a commitment and practice.

If you're at a moment when what you are experiencing on your path seems to need a pivot, ask yourself what title you would give your preferred path... take your time in choosing it.
You could end up in a whole new life.

The mind is, by nature, busy and unruly.

My first real experience recognizing this was nearly 30 years ago, when I did a 10 day Vipassana retreat.

10 days of complete silence,
10 hours a day of meditation.
Crazy making.

One thing i learned: When working with the mind, we often need guidance...and plenty of preparation.

Yogic science is a brilliant, methodical and systematic way for us to learn to work with- and be present in- all the different dimensions of ourself, gradually.

My teacher explains meditation as the process of befriending the mind.

Not to fight it. Nor judge it.
Nor to give into every thought it generates.

Easier said than done....but its worth the try.
