๐ Your back pain on the bike may not be just your back. Check your hip flexors.
Most riders treat hip flexors like one thing: tight, so stretch them. But that's only half the picture, and it's why stretching alone never fully fixes the problem.
Your hip flexors need the following to support your low back on the bike.
โ
Concentric strength drives your knee up and forward โ powering your pedal stroke and technical climbs.
โ
Eccentric strength controls lengthening under load โ what happens every time you extend your hip on a descent or absorb a hit through a rock garden, and it's the piece almost nobody trains.
โ
Length is where stretching helps โ but only once you can control that range, not just have it.
This is why we don't just stretch. We train the hip flexors to move through their full range under control, in both directions, so they can support you instead of leaving your back to cover the gap.
