Bell Hooks said, "Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion." from All about Love, p. 215...
Healing and community is not new to the history of black, brown, and indigenous folx. We have always understood that healing is a collective practice that nurtures and promotes, liberation and growth. We understood that when one member of the community is wounded and hurt, it resonated and impacted us all.
But through the separation, violence, and attempted erasure that came with colonization, we are finding our way back to communion. We are seeking communal healing. Here's a few tips on how we can continue to revive communal healing:
๐๐พ Engage in dialogue and actively LISTEN. Let's continue to create safe spaces for us to be vulnerable.
๐๐พSeek out and participate in networks that prioritize community well-being, safety, and healing.
๐๐พ Celebrate PROUDLY, LOUDLY, and UNAPOLOGETICALLY our cultural traditions and rituals.
๐๐พ Support one another's growth and healing journeys.
๐๐พ Educate yourself so that we can educate future generations about the importance of our history, ancestors, the impact of trauma, and communal healing.
