❄️ Ice weather doesn’t just affect our roads — it affects our nervous systems ❄️
For many people, this recent ice storm has brought more than inconvenience. Disrupted routines, power outages, financial strain, isolation, and uncertainty can all increase stress, anxiety, irritability, and emotional exhaustion. Even if you’re “handling it,” your body may still be on high alert.
A quick piece of psychoeducation that might help:
When we experience ongoing stress or unpredictability, our nervous system stays in survival mode. That can show up as trouble sleeping, racing thoughts, feeling overwhelmed, snapping more easily, or feeling emotionally numb. None of this means you’re weak — it means you’re human.
At EMH Counseling, I offer telehealth therapy, so support is available even when travel isn’t ideal or schedules feel upside down. Therapy can be a space to slow things down, process what you’ve been carrying, and learn tools to help your body and mind settle again.
I also offer weekend availability, because stress doesn’t follow a Monday–Friday schedule.
If you’re not sure therapy is right for you, that’s okay. Even reading this is a step toward awareness and care. Please be gentle with yourself and with others during this time.
🤍 Stay safe and take care,
EMH Counseling
