As we recognize National Breastfeeding Month, it’s a great opportunity to talk about a part of surrogacy that doesn’t always get enough attention: what happens with breast milk after delivery. 💜

Some surrogates choose to pump breast milk for the baby after birth, while others may decide that pumping isn’t right for them. When pumping is part of the plan, intended parents and surrogates can discuss details such as duration, storage, transportation, supplies, and expenses ahead of time.

Every journey is different, and the goal is a plan that respects the surrogate’s well-being while supporting the baby and intended parents. 🤍

During World Breastfeeding Week, we’re celebrating all the different ways babies can be nourished, cared for, and loved. 🤍

In a surrogacy journey, feeding after birth can look different for every family. A surrogate may choose to pump breast milk, intended parents may explore induced lactation, donor milk may be considered, or families may choose formula.

There is no single path that fits every journey. The important part is having conversations early, understanding everyone’s preferences and boundaries, and creating a postpartum feeding plan together with appropriate medical guidance.
