When we widen out definition of progress, we notice growth that traditional measures can miss. Connection, autonomy, and authentic engagement matter, too.

Myth: Therapy should look like sitting at a table. Truth: Effective therapy honors a child’s need for movement, regulation, and autonomy. At PALs, we strive to make every child feel confident and independent, whatever and however that may look for them.

If no one has told you lately: your child does not have to perform, speak, comply, or “get it right” to deserve connection.

Communication is more than words. It can look like movement, gestures, AAC, scripts, silence, proximity, protest, or simply being together. Every form of communication tells us something worth noticing.

When we reduce pressure, we make room for trust, safety, and authentic connection to grow đź’›

Child-led intervention is an approach that follows the child’s interests, communication, and sensory needs to build connection, trust, and authentic growth. Progress isn’t about perfection or performance, it’s about helping children feel safe, confident, empowered, and understood!

What activities make your child feel the most empowered or excited? We’d love to hear from you!

Please join us in extending our best wishes to Ms. Shelby as she begins her new journey as a traveling therapist. Since joining our team almost two years ago, Ms. Shelby has made a remarkable difference in the lives of the kids at PALs and has consistently demonstrated her commitment to being a team player. We will miss her dearly at PALs and are happy to see her embark on this new adventure.

Good Luck Shelby!!!

Happy Administrative Professionals Day! đź’ś
We want to take a moment to highlight these two, who play a huge role at PALs!

Ms. Sarah serves as our Administrative Specialist/Chaos Coordinator and we couldn’t do what we do without her!
Ms. Avé is our part-time rehab tech and works behind the scenes helping with intake duties!

We are so happy to have them as a part of our team and are thankful for all of their hard work!

Tiny buttons, big milestones 👕✨

Our friend here was working with one of our OTs on learning to button up a shirt! Occupational therapists help children build independence with everyday tasks like dressing—skills that go far beyond just getting clothes on. Buttoning a shirt, for example, relies on a variety of underlying skills including fine motor strength, bilateral coordination (using both hands together), hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and visual perceptual skills to line up each button just right.

Through play-based, child-led approaches, OTs break buttoning down into manageable steps while strengthening these foundational skills and building confidence along the way.
