Random Acts of Kindness Day: Lessons from Children

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day—a reminder that even the smallest acts can make a big difference.

Children often show us the purest examples of kindness: sharing without expecting anything in return, offering hugs, saying encouraging words, or helping a friend in need. Their actions remind us that kindness doesn’t have to be complicated—it just needs to be heartfelt.

This Random Acts of Kindness Day, take a cue from the kids around you: smile, share, and spread a little love. You might just make someone’s day—and teach yourself a lesson too!

❤️ February: Love Your Heart! ❤️

February isn’t just about Valentine’s Day—it’s American Heart Month, a time to focus on the health of the heart that keeps us going every day.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., but many risk factors can be managed with simple lifestyle changes:

* Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains 🍎🥦
* Stay active—aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week 🏃‍♂️
* Monitor blood pressure and cholesterol regularly 🩺
* Avoid smoking and limit alcohol

This Valentine’s Day, show your love by taking care of your heart—and encouraging your loved ones to do the same. A healthy heart is the greatest gift you can give yourself and others! ❤️

February invites us to reflect on both history and health.

🖤 Black History Month honors the lives, strength, and contributions of Black individuals who have shaped our world.

🎗️ World Cancer Day (February 4) reminds us to unite in the fight against cancer and advocate for awareness, research, and equitable care.

Today, we honor Henrietta Lacks, a Black woman whose cancer cells—taken without her consent in 1951—became the first immortal cell line, known as HeLa cells. Her cells have contributed to countless medical breakthroughs, including advances in cancer research, vaccines, and treatments that continue to save lives today.

Henrietta Lacks’ legacy reminds us of the importance of ethical research, informed consent, and health equity as we work toward a healthier future for all.

On this National Women Physicians Day, we celebrate the pioneers who walked so that we may run. We are so thankful for the amazing physicians at Greystone Family Medicine, Dr. Amanda Shaw and Dr. Elizabeth Stevenson!

Elizabeth Blackwell made history in 1849 as the first woman in the United States to earn a medical degree. At a time when women were told they didn’t belong in medicine, she pushed forward with courage and determination.

She later opened hospitals for women and children and helped train future female doctors, leaving a lasting impact on healthcare and education.

🩺✨ As Elizabeth Blackwell once said:

“It is not easy to be a pioneer—but oh, it is fascinating!”

Her legacy reminds us that progress begins when someone dares to challenge the limits placed before them.
