Can low vision be improved even when regular glasses or surgery can't help?

In this Minnesota & Co. interview, host Jessica Fix sits down with our very own Dr. Chris Palmer and patient-turned-patient-care-coordinator Ann to discuss how specialized low vision care is helping people regain independence.

Ann shares her journey of living with Stargardt disease, an inherited eye condition that causes central vision loss. After working with Dr. Palmer, she was able to accomplish tasks she once thought were no longer possible through updated, customized low vision glasses.

During the interview, Dr. Palmer explains how specialized devices, including bioptic telescopes and reading telescopes, can help people with vision loss maximize the vision they still have. These custom low vision glasses are designed for people whose sight cannot be improved with traditional glasses, contact lenses, medication, or surgery.

If you or someone you love is living with vision loss caused by:
• Macular Degeneration (AMD)
• Stargardt Disease
• Diabetic Retinopathy
• Glaucoma
• Retinitis Pigmentosa
• Optic Nerve Disease
• Or other eye conditions
..there may be options available to help improve daily activities like reading, recognizing faces, watching TV, and in some cases, even driving.

The Twin Cities has lost a true light. 🕊️

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sr. Rosalind Gefre. To many, she was the legendary “nun with the healing hands” who brought comfort to the St. Paul Saints games. To us here at Low Vision Restoration, she was a dear friend and a source of incredible inspiration.

Sr. Rosalind lived with macular degeneration, but she never let it dim her spirit or her calling. It was an honor for Dr. Palmer to work with her to continue living a full, active life of service. She was more than just a patient—she was a staple at our fundraising events and the star of one of our commercials.

Beyond her healing hands, she had a gentle soul that touched everyone she met. We will miss her warmth, her humor, and her unwavering grace. Rest in peace, Sr. Rosalind; your story continues to inspire us every single day.
