Long before she became the surgeon she is today, Dr. Dunya Atisha was a little girl walking around her home pretending to be a doctor.
Her mother still remembers her announcing:
“Dr. Dunya Atisha, you’re needed in the emergency room—STAT!” 🥹👩⚕️
That childhood dream became a lifelong pursuit of medicine, surgery, and helping others.
From General Surgery residency at the University of Iowa, to Plastic Surgery research at the University of Michigan, followed by Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery training at Duke University, Dr. Atisha built her career through years of rigorous education, surgical training, research, and mentorship.
She went on to become an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida and later served nearly a decade at Henry Ford Health as Director of Breast Reconstruction and Microsurgery.
Today, as a double board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, her expertise is grounded in decades of training, complex reconstruction, microsurgery, aesthetic surgery, research, and leadership.
That pedigree matters. Because exceptional surgical results aren’t built overnight—they’re built through years of dedication, difficult cases, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
And behind every credential and achievement is still that little girl who dreamed of becoming a surgeon.
She dreamed it.
She studied for it.
She trained for it.
She dedicated her life to it.
And today, she gets to live it. ❤️
Some dreams don’t simply become careers. They become a calling.
