Most people think Narcan is only for people struggling with addiction.
It isn't.
You should carry Narcan...
• For the teenage girl who was just experimenting at a party, and whose friends panicked, dragged her out of the car, and left her in your front yard.
• For your best friend's brother, who is loved unconditionally, no matter how many times he's been to treatment.
• For your grandmother, who accidentally took too much of her prescribed pain medication because she simply forgot.
• For your curious toddler, who found a bottle of medication that was accidentally left within reach.
• For the young man who had no idea the drug he bought was contaminated with fentanyl.
• For your student who went to the bathroom and hasn't returned in over 20 minutes.
• For your neighbor's son, lying unresponsive on the dining room floor while his family desperately waits for first responders.
• For your high school friend, who survived years of abuse and was introduced to drugs by the very people who were supposed to protect her.
• For your dog, who picks up and swallows discarded opioids during a walk.
• For your daughter, who grew up in a loving home... and still found herself battling addiction.
Carry Narcan because overdose doesn't discriminate.
It doesn't care about age, race, income, education, or whether someone fits a stereotype.
Narcan is safe. If someone isn't experiencing an opioid overdose, it won't hurt them. But if they are, it may give them the chance to breathe again, to recover, to see another sunrise, and to have another opportunity at life.
Carry it not because you expect the worst...
Carry it because you believe every life is worth saving.
Carry it for compassion.
Carry it for humanity.
Carry it because one small act of preparedness can change the ending of someone's story.
